Our Mission:
Grow in God's grace.
Love with all our heart.
Serve with all our strength.
A Word from Pastor Tom
Dear Friends in Christ,
What a joy to begin the New Year in combined worship last Sunday at 9:30 am! It was great to have a Sunday other than Easter or Christmas Eve when ushers had to ask a few congregants to move in to make room for others (not to mention a full parking lot - What a witness to our community!).  It was an inspiring time to commune as one family in Christ and covenant together to share God’s love with all our neighbors in this 140 th year to “live in God’s presence.”
As we think about the spiritual pioneers who made great sacrifices in order to build a church here in 1879 (like hauling bois d’arc lumber from East Texas, just to mention one example), we are called to follow their lead by recommitting ourselves to:
  • PRAY – Every day at 1:40 praying that God’s love would flow through us in this 140th year.
  • BE PRESENT – Let’s prioritize the life-changing habit of weekly worship, fellowship and learning.
  • GIVE - returning to God the first portion of what we have received from God in income and other blessings.
  • SERVE - rolling up our sleeves and serving with all our strength. For one way, sign up for the January 20 Blood Drive. Click here to sign up.
  • WITNESS – join the 80+??? who have taken the 140 year challenge of inviting at least 1 person to 1 event once a month in our 140th year – Click here to register.
As we live into this covenant together, we will truly live in God’s presence and love this community with Christ’s love in this 140 th year. What an exciting time to be a part of this great community of faith. See you Sunday!!
Yours gratefully in Christ,
Pastor Tom
P.S. Remember worship at 9:30 a.m. (Sanctuary and Ministry Center) followed by all-church fellowship/refreshments (10:25-10:45 a.m. in Wesley Hall), followed by Sunday School/Learning Time for all ages (10:45-11:30 a.m.).
P.P.S. As you likely have heard, Eunha Chang announced last week that January 6 would be her last Sunday at First Coppell after a wonderful, 8-year season of leading worship here. If you would like to write a note of appreciation to Eunha, please bring those by the church office and we will make sure she receives our warmest wishes.

  • Delighting in the Trinity – Pastor Tom will lead this book study by Michael Reeves, Theological Advisor for the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship, UCCF. We all have our concept of what the Trinity is, but struggle to truly understand the depth of its meaning and explain it to others. Pastor Tom will help us gain a greater appreciation for the meaning of the Trinity through this insightful and witty book. Wednesdays, 10:30 - 11:45 a.m. or 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. in the Library. Cost is $15 with scholarships available.
  • Digging for Meaning in Romans - While the New Testament is the central context for our Christian belief, the book of Romans is central to Pauline theology for the church. As daunting as it may seem to study, we will be exploring the theology and themes found in Romans. Pastor Rick will lead this study of Romans that will extend out through the whole year as we go chapter by chapter. So hold on and lets learn. Wednesdays, 5:30 - 6:25 p.m. in the Library
Calling all Children!
We are looking for a few more singers and ringers for our children’s choirs and handbell groups! January is a great time to join! Rehearsals resume on January 16 . We have choirs for four-year-olds (by September 1, 2018) through 5th Grade. Choirs meet on Wednesdays, 5:30-6:15/6:30 p.m. The 1st-5th Grades are going to a rotation system on February 13, and will include time for singing, mission, and instruments/drums. We also have handbell choirs for kids in 4th & 5th Grades. If your child is interested in ringing handbells, please contact Deanna Goodman at dgoodman@fumccoppell.org . We have some great things planned. Come and join us!
Bring your family and friends and join us for dinner and fellowship from 6-6:45 p.m. Each week we will have a different Adult menu and a special menu just for Kids! Price: $7 adults, $6 adults half-portion (half size entrée), $5 kids (kids menu option).

Menu for January 16 is spaghetti . Salad, fruit, and dessert available to all. Reservations needed by Monday evening.

Night to Shine
We are once again partnering with St. Ann Parrish and The Servant House to host “Night to Shine” which is a Tim Tebow sponsored event where people with special needs can shine as they walk down the red carpet and enter into the ballroom to be greeted as kings and queens. Not only is this a time for the guests to shine, but also for churches, volunteers and most importantly Christ. If you would like to take part in this wonderful event happening February 8 , please contact Kathy Braem at kbraem@fumccoppell.org for volunteer and donation opportunities. You can also visit the St. Ann Parrish website to read more about this special night. All volunteers must go through training in order to be a part of this event.

Our Night to Shine Boutique will take place January 19 and 26, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. If you have a prom, bridesmaid, mother of the bride dress that is just taking up space in your closet we would love to have it for the boutique. We are also in need of men’s suits, tuxedo’s or any other formal wear for the guys who will be going to the prom. Please contact Kathy Braem at kbraem@fumccoppell.org for drop off information.

Student Mentoring
One + One is a United Methodist partnership that serves children, changes lives, and transforms communities. The concept of One + One is everyone gives 30 minutes, one time per week, to one child. We have a new campus (Town Center) that has a need for 3 mentors starting in January. Through these one-on-one mentoring relationships here in Coppell, YOU can help by reading with a child, partnering with teachers and administrators, and praying for Coppell ISD. Contact Martha Hagan-Smith at mhagan@fumcCoppell.org to participate in this powerful ministry!
