See a part of St. James’s history you’ve never seen: The beginning.
No matter how much you know about St. James’s, there’s so much more to know. Every Wednesday through May 5, we’ll be looking at the very early history (1830-1865) of St. James’s through the lens of race in our series: Uncovering Our History.
Under the leadership of the Racial Justice & Reconciliation Ministry, a team of St. James’s parishioners have undertaken an ambitious research project of digging into old records, vestry minutes, sermons and the like, to take stock of our past and move toward becoming a beloved community. The five-week course also includes insights from Richmond historians and church academics, plus we’ll spend two Wednesdays discussing Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s recent PBS special, The Black Church.
You only have to register in advance once for this entire series. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining all the meetings. Registration

A second chance to change your life.
Focused on race, grounded in faith. That’s the short description of the ground-breaking 10-part series Sacred Ground, created by the Episcopal Church and curated by our own Rev. Hilary Streever. The description given by many of the St. Jamesers who participated in the program is even shorter: “life-altering.”
Because of the overwhelmingly positive reaction we’ve launched a second wave of Sacred Ground, which is already underway. But the good news is there are still spots available. And because the classes are staggered, you’re not too late to start from the beginning.
Click here to see video about this amazing series.
After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation email with info about joining all the meetings. If you have any questions, contact Hilary Streever. This is part of the St. James’s Racial Justice & Reconciliation offering.

We’re off to a running start.
Week 1 of our Youth Ministry Running Club in Byrd Park was a big success. But it’s a big park so there’s always room for more. Created for every age and every level--walkers, joggers and runners--we meet every Sunday through May 23 at 10 am in Byrd Park.
Park in the Dogwood Dell parking lot, next to Barker Field parking. This is where you'll check-in too.

A few safety rules: Masks on once you get out of your car. But you can remove your mask while running socially distanced.
No cost and no registration needed. See you there!

Invite • Welcome • Connect
wants to connect with you.
Invite • Welcome • Connect is a transforming ministry that is coming to St. James’s. It will inform and enliven everything we do moving forward--from the way we welcome new parishioners into our church to the way each of us connects to each other and our meaningful personal ministries.
We’ll be launching focus groups about IWC on April 18th in our House Churches. If you’re not in a House Church but wish to help St. James’s become more intentional in our practices of evangelism, hospitality, and connectedness rooted in the gospel directive to “make disciples of all nations," contact Blake Singer.

News from the Episcopal Church
|
|
Good news in a world that desperately needs it.
Tell Me Something Good, a web series from The Episcopal Church that launched in the fall of 2020, is back for a second season with a new lineup of positive stories from around the church.
New episodes will be released every two weeks beginning on April 13 and will be available for viewing, along with Season 1, on The Episcopal Church website here, on Facebook here, and on Instagram TV @theepiscopalchurch.
The series is hosted by Jerusalem Greer, Episcopal Church staff officer for evangelism, and the Rev. Canon Marcus Halley, dean of formation of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut. “When we started this project in 2020, our goal was to share the stories of people who, in the face of multiple crises were finding new, unconventional, simple, and creative ways of sharing the Good News in their context,” Greer said. “That same desire has carried us into a new season, as we find ourselves in the second year of a global pandemic, but with a good dose of hope on the horizon – which I think is reflected in each episode.”
