Focus on the Season for August 14
10th Sunday after Pentecost
Scripture Readings for Sunday, August 14
Jeremiah 23:23-29; Psalm 82; Hebrews 11:29 - 12:2
Luke 12:49-56

The word of God is a refining fire. Jesus is the great divide in human history. He invites our undivided attention and devotion. Today in worship we are surrounded by a great “cloud of witnesses.” In the word and in holy communion we are invited yet again to look to Jesus, “the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.”

Honoring Dr. Marilyn Keiser
Tom Dearchs' teacher, mentor, and friend will retire on Sunday, July 31, after a ground-breaking career. She has been the Director of Music at Trinity Episcopal, Bloomington for 39 years! She taught applied organ and church music at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University for 25 years. Dr. Keiser has played at Christ Lutheran numerous times in the past 22 years and we are most grateful. Tom will be in attendance at Trinity Episcopal, Bloomington for her last Sunday and will attend a Service of Thanksgiving in her honor on Thursday, August 4. This photo was taken following the Hymn Festival & Organ Concert on September 26, 20214.

Want to read about Marilyn’s journey in music in her own words? You will enjoy this wonderful interview from a few years ago, which was published in The Diapason. Read it here.

Words from The Rev. Dr. Matt Seddon, Rector, Trinity Episcopal, Bloomington

Deep Gratitude
Praise God with timbrel and dance;
Praise God with strings and pipe. (Psalm 150:4)

Dr. Marilyn Keiser has served God, the Episcopal Church, and Trinity Church with skill, fervor, joy, and love. I'm actually at a loss for adequate words upon her impending last Sunday service as official Music Director and Organist. What has moved my heart the most in my time here, and given me joy in working with her, is that she does all that she does out of love; love for God, love for God's people, love for students, love for God's church. This love pours out of her fingers onto the organ, leads choirs and musicians to inspire worship, teaches and nurtures students, and is visible and clear to everyone who has any contact with her at all. I cannot adequately cover all she has done in her ground-breaking career, but her contributions will grow into the future as all the people of faith she has nourished spread the joy of God that they have felt through music here to others and as her students continue to bring music and song in our tradition to future generations. I feel lucky to have been able to just see her at work and learn from her. Please thank God for her, thank her for her, and hold her in your prayers as she seeks where God is now calling her.
-Rev. Matt

Christ's Cupboard --updated August 3, 2022--
Here are the facts! The number of persons served at the Samaritan Love pantry for the past three months is the following: May: 168 Families (11 new) 537 individuals total, June: 248 Families (46 new) 811 individuals total, July: 201 Families (47 new) 606 individuals. This report is from one pantry in Kokomo. If there ever were a need to prepare pantries with goods for the numbers of folks coming for assistance, the need is now and will no doubt
continue. We at CLC can do our part to help pantries that serve the Kokomo community have food etc. on their shelves. Our pantry shelves are now empty so we can pick up an extra box of cereal, a couple of cans of canned pasta, spaghetti and sauce, and a package of toilet tissue when we are in the grocery stores doing our own shopping. As NIKE says, "Just Do It'! Also remember, a donation can is located in the wagon and folks can also send an extra envelope in the offering plate marked: Food Pantry.
