Jeremy Taylor Concert
This Sunday - 7 pm - 225 N. Kenilworth Ave., Oak Park

Jim and Marge Chesney invite you to a concert by Jeremy Taylor at the home of Gary & Catheve Strokosch this weekend.

Jeremy was famous in South Africa beginning in 1961 when he penned a simple children's song that went four times gold and became an unofficial national anthem. With this song at odds with the apartheid government because it "mixed the languages," it was banned from the airwaves. Eventually, Jeremy was banned as well. The government accused him of "ridiculing apartheid." During his exile he performed in England, hosted his own show on British television and appeared with some of the leading comedians of the era. Studs Terkel interviewed him for broadcast on WFMT two times and became Jeremy's biggest fan. They appeared together on stage at Chicago's Hot House in 2005. In 1961 Studs said "His songs were universal in their meaning. Jeremy was en rapport with the world... his music was not only powerful; wit and laughter were there too." Reserve your seat by calling: 708.386.8772.
