HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND AT UUCUC
WORSHIP SERVICE
COMING OF AGE
May 5, 2019 / 10:15 A.M.
LED BY COMING OF AGE YOUTH

Every two years our youth in 7th and 8th grade are part of a year-long Coming of Age group, that includes retreats, mentors, a service project, fun and introspection. Each Coming of Age youth writes a "credo" about what they believe, toward the end of the year. This very special service will feature those credos.

OUR CARING CONGREGATION
Joys and Sorrows

A sorrow shared by Umeeta Sadarangani
Sorrow and love for all those affected by the recent attacks: on the synagogue in San Diego, on the churches in Sri Lanka, and on the mosque in New Zealand.

A sorrow shared by the Welcoming Congregation Team
On the transgender day of remembrance in 2018 we remembered 26 transgender people in the U.S. lost to violent deaths the past year. The majority of whom were blank trans women. These victims were killed by acquaintances, partners and strangers, some of whom have been arrested and charged, while others have yet to be identified. In 2019, we already mourn the violent deaths of 2 black trans women:
  • Dana Martin, 31, fatally shot in Montgomery, Alabama on January 6.
  • Ashanti Carmon, fatally shot in Prince George's County Maryland on March 30.
SOCIAL JUSTICE NEWS
UUCUC Shared Offering. Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive half of our weekly Sunday plate collections, designated checks written to UUCUC with organization's name written in the memo line, cash envelopes designated for "Shared Offering" within the specified month and on-line donations through our GIVE WEBPAGE .

During the month of May Sunday services’ shared offerings will support Planned Parenthood of Illinois .

Planned Parenthood is the number one provider of reproductive healthcare in America, and a respected leader in educating Americans about reproductive and sexual health. Their expert nurses, doctors, educators, and health center staff are dedicated to bringing high-quality, non-judgmental, affordable care to their communities.

The heart of Planned Parenthood is in the local community. Fifty-six unique, locally governed affiliates nationwide operate more than 600 health centers, which reflect the diverse needs of their communities. Planned Parenthood of Illinois operates the local Champaign Health Center, which provides men's and women's reproductive health care, birth control, HIV testing, abortion services, gender-affirming hormone therapy, cancer screening, and more.

Lawmakers who have spent years trying to defund Planned Parenthood health centers are still trying relentlessly to make their dangerous agenda a reality. By supporting our local Planned Parenthood clinic through the shared offering, we show our support for access to quality, affordable reproductive healthcare in our community.
