2017 Annual Fund Update

As of Monday, December 12, 294 pledges totaling $817,040 have been received toward our $975,000 goal. The Annual Fund Leadership and Vestry are grateful for each pledge received and seeks 100% participation from all member households by Sunday, December 18 before the Meeting of the Vestry on Tuesday, December 20. For campaign information and to pledge online, visit www.st-peters.org/annualfund, or you may pledge at the Parish House. Our total amount pledged and the 2017 pledgers' list continue to grow for the completion of a 2017 operating budget to be drafted by the Finance Committee and approved by the Vestry.

Advent presents invitations for Christians to respond to the commonly held suggestions of slowing down, preparing, and joyfully anticipating, yet again, the Incarnation: God with us.

8:00 a.m. Holy Communion* in the traditional language of the Book of Common Prayer (Rite I), including sermon, organ music, and hymns.

8:30 a.m. "Holy Chow,"  breakfast in the Community Room. Cost is $4 per person; $15 household maximum.

9:30 a.m. Christian Formation for all ages, locations display on signage throughout the Parish House.

10:45 a.m. Holy Communion* in the contemporary language of the Book of Common Prayer (Rite II), including sermon, choral and organ music, and hymns.

5:00 p.m. Advent Evenings with Holy Eucharist and Music. The liturgy includes a homily, moments of silence, and diverse musical offerings for the season of Advent.

*Nursery Care - 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Infants and toddlers, ages 0-3 are welcome in St. Peter's professionally staffed nursery. The nursery area is accessible from the Church by walking through the Chapel, and proceeding up the steps to the left.

Sunday Formation for Youth and Children, December 18, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Journey to Adulthood (J2A) youth, ages 13-18, meet in the Youth Suite (basement level, Parish House). Catechesis of the Good Shepherd children, ages 2-12, meet on first floor in the Toddler Atrium and Levels 1-3 Atria (classrooms). 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Parish House. Note: After December 18, Sunday formation offerings will be suspended until January 8
 
Sunday Formation for Adults, December 18, 9:30-10:30 a.m. In the Parish Hall (second floor, Parish House), a conversation about "The Gift of Prayer: Intercessory Prayer" will explore the importance of this prayer form, and how we are mindful of others through offerings such as St. Peter's Prayer List. In the Town Choir Room (basement, Parish House) , Contemplative Prayer will be facilitated by the Reverend Dr. Paul Hanneman, Formation Partner, from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. Note: After December 18, Sunday formation offerings will be suspended until January 8.
 
Sunday Evenings at St. Peter's. Spread the word about the remaining " Advent Evening: Holy Eucharist with Music" at 5:00 p.m. on December 18. This liturgy will include moments of silence, diverse musical offerings, and a homily offered by The Reverend Dr. Paul Hanneman. On most second and fourth Sundays at 5:00 p.m., we offer Choral Evensong and Holy Eucharist. The next will be on January 8. Formation class for adults, youth, and children and "Holy Chow" breakfast resume on Sunday, January 8. On Friday, January 6, after the Twelfth Day of Christmas, all are invited to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany with Holy Eucharist and Burning of the Greens at 6:00 p.m. Families with children, in particular, have enjoyed this special feast.
 
Weekday Morning Prayer and Noon Eucharist Holiday Schedule. Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. Morning Prayer in the Chapel of the Saints is a beautiful offering for the start of the day. Spread the word that this liturgy of The Book of Common Prayer will not be offered December 26 - 28 and January 2. Our Tuesday Noon Eucharist, which also draws parishioners and visitors alike, will not be offered on December 27. All are most welcome and encouraged to bring guests to join them for any and all of these weekday offerings.
 
Holy Chow Breakfast Suspended for Christmas and New Year's Days. Our Sunday weekly fellowship, 8:30 - 9:25 a.m., will not be offered on December 25 and January 1 to give the Holy Chow teams a holiday break. This hearty breakfast and good fellowship served in the Community Room will resume on Sunday, January 8. If you would like to serve on a Holy Chow team in the new year, contact Tate Sterrett (TSterrett@horacktalley.com, 704-365-3438).
 
Annual Greening of the Church, Friday, December 23. On Friday, December 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending 2:00 p.m. or until finished, all ages are invited to share in an annual fun occasion of cleaning, polishing, decorating, and preparing our sacred space for Christmas with candles, wreaths, garlands, and poinsettias. Come for the entire time or when your schedule permits. Refreshments will be provided. Note: Volunteers also are needed to assist the Altar and Flower Guilds with the removal of the greenery and basic cleanup during the week of December 26. A Personal Message from The Reverend Joslyn Ogden Schaefer, Associate Rector. On December 5, our Rector shared news that our Associate Rector has accepted the call to serve as the Rector of a parish in the Diocese of Western North Carolina. Her last Sunday at St. Peter's will be January 8. Read their letter to the parish family  or pick up a copy in the Parish House lobby, and stay tuned for more information about ways to celebrate the faithful ministry of the Reverend Joslyn Ogden Schaefer among us.
 
Holiday Provisions Provided by The St. Peter's Choir . In preparation for their Summer 2017 residency at St. Alban's Cathedral, England, the fine cooks of our parish choir will offer superb specialties for your home, work, or social celebrations. St. Peter's Choir Provisions is part of the fund-raising efforts required to offset expenses for this continuing education pilgrimage. The deadline for orders to be delivered Sunday, December 18 after the 10:45 a.m. service is Friday, December 16; the deadline for orders to be delivered Thursday, December 22 is Tuesday, December 20. Christmas Memorials Benefit Church Decorations and Special Music. If you would like to honor or memorialize loved ones by offering a donation for Christmas greenery, decorations, or special music including guest instrumentalists, the deadline to print acknowledgements is noon on Monday, December 19. To make your donation online, click here You also may mail donations with acknowledgements to Parish Administrator Leigh Dixon, 115 West Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28202 or use a "Christmas Contribution" envelope available through the Parish House Receptionist.
