Salt of the Earth, Light of the World
In my first two weeks, as your Associate Rector I have witnessed the ways in which St. Peter's has been a beacon of light and hope in our city. I have learned of your rich history of being a parish of radical welcome and justice for the most vulnerable in our society, and the ways in which our parish in continuing this gospel work. Again, and again I have heard of the ways in which various parishioners are modeling hope in the context of our society's fear and anxiety.
8:00 a.m. Holy Communion* in the traditional language of the Book of Common Prayer (Rite I), including sermon, organ music, and hymns.
8:30 a.m. "Holy Chow,"
breakfast in the Community Room. Cost is $4 per person; $15 household maximum.
9:30 a.m. Christian Formation for all ages, locations display on signage throughout the Parish House.
10:45 a.m. Holy Communion* in the contemporary language of the Book of Common Prayer (Rite II), including sermon, choral and organ music, and hymns.
5:00 p.m. Choral Evensong with Holy Eucharist. The Boys and Girls Choirs of the Choir School at St. Peter's and St. Peter's clergy lead this week's service.
*Nursery Care - 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Infants and toddlers, ages 0-3 are welcome in St. Peter's professionally staffed nursery. The nursery area is accessible from the Church by walking through the Chapel, and proceeding up the steps to the left.

Sunday Formation for Adults, February 12, 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Parish Hall Forum (second floor, Parish House) will feature lay leaders Jim Dudley, Elizabeth Richardson, Ruth Woodend, and the Reverend Ollie V. Rencher, Rector, for a panel regarding the significance of Spiritual Direction. Spiritual Direction seeks to help one to claim one's own personal experience of God. Through thoughtful examination and conversation, lay and ordained spiritual directors assist seekers to perceive God's presence in their lives, respond in authenticity, and celebrate the transformations that occur.
Parish Community Monthly Potlucks start Sunday, February 12.
We will begin a new monthly Parish Potluck on Sunday, February 12 at 12:30 p.m. in the Community Room (second floor, Parish House). Everyone is invited to share in this community meal. Each month, on the second Sunday of the month, a different group within the Parish will sponsor and organize the potluck. This month's sponsor is the St. Peter's Vestry. Please come and share the food and fellowship. If your name begins with the letter A-M, please bring something savory; if it begins with the letter N-Z, please bring something sweet.
Annual Shrove Tuesday Festival and Volunteers, February 28.
On the eve of Ash Wednesday, the parish family is invited to gather for a Shrove Tuesday Festival on Tuesday, February 28, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Prepare now for an evening of live music and food, including pancakes, The Rector's Gumbo, fresh fruit, King Cake and other desserts, including many child-friendly options. Tickets are $6 for youth and adults, $4 for children, up to a $25 household maximum.

George Winston Concert Benefits Galilee Ministries.
On Thursday, March 23 at 8:00 p.m., pianist George Winston will play a benefit concert at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Davidson. Since 1972, George has released 13 solo piano albums. Winston's third concert at St. Alban's equally benefits the St. Alban's Preschool Scholarship Fund and Galilee Ministries of East Charlotte. Tickets are $50 for general admission and $100 for VIP, which includes priority seating and an intermission reception with beer, wine, and appetizers. Immigration Awareness Tables at St. Peter's.
On Sundays, February 12, 19, and 26, members of the parish Social Justice Team will be present at an information table in the Parish House to provide faith-based insight to immigration matters. Resources from the Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations located on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
