Gulfport Chefs Bring Fine Dining to the Streets

GULFPORT, FLORIDA: Reservations are now being accepted for the first-ever Gulfport Chefs Table, an outdoor fine-dining experience set for Monday, October 3rd (Rain date Monday, October 10th), 6pm until 10pm.  The event will highlight Gulfport's thriving food scene and feature the offerings of nine local restaurants and chefs at a long community table set up in the center of Beach Boulevard in Gulfport's historic Waterfront District.

Each participating restaurant/chef has created a 4-course prix fixe menu and diners may choose any of the nine menus being offered, ranging in price from $40 to $80 per person, plus tax.  Prices include wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverage choices.  Participating restaurants are Backfin Blue Café, Boca Bay Grille, Fish Bar & Grill, Isabelle's at the Peninsula Inn, Mangia Gourmet, Neptune Grille, O'Maddy's, Pia's Trattoria, and Smokin' J's BBQ.  Tables will be assembled end-to-end to accommodate diners, with décor created by each restaurant for its own section of seating.  Fine dining details including white tablecloths, china, glassware and full table service will be included.

The Gulfport Chefs Table is a fundraising event, with all net profits donated to charity.  The charity chosen for this inaugural year is CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse), providing services to women and families recovering from abusive environments.  Funds raised will be applied to the Sonia Raymund Foundation's matching grant program for CASA's new domestic violence shelter - so all donations generated from the Chefs Table event will be doubled!

For more information and to view menus, go to www.casa-stpete.org/gulfportchefstable.  After selecting a menu, call or visit the restaurant of your choice for reservations.  Payment is requested at the time reservations are made. Also, view the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/1574378532865956/.  The Gulfport Chefs Table is sponsored by the non-profit Gulfport Merchants Association.  For more information, contact Daniel Hodge at 727-366-4086 or email to DHodge@GulfportMA.com

Yolanda Roman

Yolanda Roman's office hours are Monday at 11:30 a.m.

In April 2016, I began my next two years as a Gulfport City Council Member.  I look forward to learning and doing more, working harder, and having a more positive impact in Gulfport.  Key areas needing short and long term focus include: our commitment to police/fire, city staff, public works, parks/recreation, senior center/programs, youth programs, marina improvements, infrastructure priorities (sewers, street paving, sidewalks/alleys, Shore Blvd flooding), and protecting our waters (Clam Bayou, Marina and Gulfport Beach).  Other ongoing areas we must address include environmentally-friendly decisions, the significant 25% St. Petersburg water surcharge (FY 2017-18), downtown parking challenges, and other aging infrastructure.  We must be fiscally smart with capital improvement plans, as well as proactively seeking outside funding via federal, state, county and local grants.  I remain very pleased how the City of Gulfport manages meeting the needs of Gulfport residents by developing a sound operating budget annually.

I welcome your comments and questions.
