News from Christ Church

January 25, 2023

All church activities are canceled for tonight, Wednesday, January 25. This includes our Healing Eucharist, confirmation class, and our EYC gathering. Confirmation classes will resume next week with the discussion of the sacraments.

Dear friends,

This week, Christ Church received a new traveling communion set. This purchase was made in memory of Nancy Wiedbrauk and made possible by donations from the Wiedbrauk family and George and Ginny Mindos. Nancy, a member of St. Thomas in Vernon until its closing, was buried from Christ Church this past year.

Our Eucharistic Visitors join with me in bringing communion to those who are homebound or hospitalized. Until this point, we've been sharing a personal set of mine given to me by my sending parish when I was ordained. Now Christ Church has a set of its own and this valuable ministry can continue to grow, strengthening the bonds of our communion in times of need.

We give thanks to God and to those who loved Nancy for this good gift. As always, let us know if you or a parishioner you know are in need of home communion.

Christ Church book club

Our next selection is Zen and the Art of the Saving the Planet by Thich Nhat Hanh. From Goodreads: "In these troubling times we all yearn for a better world. But many of us feel powerless and uncertain what we can do. Thich Nhat Hanh is blazingly clear: there’s one thing that we have the power to change—and which can make all the difference: our mind. How we see and think about things determines all the choices we make, the everyday actions we take (or avoid), how we relate to those we love (or oppose), and how we react in a crisis or when things don’t go our way."
