THE ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN PENTECOST

August 4, 2024

Dear George,

As "First Communion," once common in Anglican circles, is still expected by former Mexican Roman Catholics, Padre Miguel inaugurated several of our children at the Noon Spanish language Mass Today with a Rite of First Communion.

In Anglican/Episcopal practice, since Holy Baptism is deemed to be the "door into the Church," it was determined in the 1970s that all baptized Christians of whatever age were welcome to receive Eucharistic sustenance. It is important, however, that we accommodate and honor local practice.

Senior Warden Kathy Lapsys (mklapsys@gmail.com) is looking for lots of help for the annual Holiday Bazaar November 15 and 16. Patrons may also contribute financially by providing a tent, table rentals, and a custom banner. Volunteers are needed to lead sub-committees, effect publicity, locate vendors, and all else!

Mike Lapsys undergoes spinal surgery in Houston August 7, so do have him in your prayers that day.

Thanks to Daniel Morgan and John Baker, who strive to live-stream and make YouTube videos available. Today, it seems, prohibiting children and adults from using the internet for gaming or other purposes permitted sound to accompany our YouTube. The Rector decrees all shall be off of internet devices from 10:05 am until the Liturgy is concluded. This has the Imprimatur of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Amen.

Grace and peace,

GFW+

BIBLE STUDY ON ROMANS BEGINS IN SEPTEMBER

“It is impossible to read or to meditate on this letter too much or too well,”

wrote Martin Luther in 1522 in the preface to his commentary on the Letter

to the Romans. For Luther and for many other theologians and Biblical

scholars over the centuries, St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans is the very

heart of the gospel. Luther speaks for many when he writes, “This letter is

truly the most important piece in the New Testament.” Centuries later,

Swiss theologian Karl Barth’s rocked the world of theology in 1919 when

his Commentary on Romans was published.

So…what does this New Testament letter contain? Why is it so important

to our Christian faith? How do its truths apply in our day and age?

Come and find out when Father Frank Hebert leads a Bible Study on

Monday mornings at 10am at the Church beginning Monday, September 2.

You will be challenged intellectually by this densely written theological

treatise. You will be surprised by how it speaks to our modern age. And

you will be inspired to deeper faith and insight.

All are welcome, and there is no cost to participate, but please sign up by

contacting the Church Office at stpaulmanagementSMA@gmail.com so

that enough study materials can be prepared. For questions, contact Fr.

Frank at fnhebert@gmail.com
