THE SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

MAY 12, 2024

Dear George,

Monthly May heat is upon us! Still, our numbers are pretty good at about cumulatively 130. We're considering additional fans.

My passing boy-hood fantasy of being a pirate, may, due to cataract surgery, soon be fulfilled. If you see me offering one-eyed liturgies, well 'Heh Ho, a Pirate's Life for me!'

Tuesday and Thursday English classes are suspended until mid-June as Lyne Daroff makes a quick jaunt to the States.

Our sign up sheet for weekly casseroles / meals for the Rios/Rangel family now through November is well on it's way to completion. We'll keep a list by the parish door and on one of the bulletin boards.

Sign ups for flower/candle donations are lagging. A sheet will appear on bulleting boards (magically, I'm sure, but probably because of efforts by Isobella Kreitzel.

April 27 was the Quinciñera of our Sextons lovely daughter in Comonfort. Distressingly, one of her male accompaniments, a chambelane, was collected by his father after on his moto after the event. A "road rage" incident followed, and both son and chamberlane were shot dead. Your prayers are asked for 14 year old Rodrigo Valderos Garcia and his family.

I recently heard the murder rate in Celaya, with entire impunity, exceeds the entire annual murder rate for the United Kingdom.

A few bits of wisdom:

  1. Do not engage in road rage. Offer signs of regret and deference.
  2. Do not go to Comonfort or Celaya.
  3. Do not leave objects of interest in your car or in your pew.

I have never, in 6 years of residence in San Miguel, experienced any sense of threat. I am careful where I place my wallet in public crowds. I walk late at night (I'm a guy). And yet...I never, apart from pastoral emergencies, go to Celaya. Just to brighten your week.

What an outstanding group of parishioners I am privileged to serve! Thank you each and all together!

Blessed Eastertide!

Just where shall we place the next dish???

St Paul's member Jim Kraus and the organization he co-founded, Equinoterapia SMA, A.C. received a recent grant from 100 Women Who Care. The funds will be a great help to grow the program and serve more special needs children and families with proven horse therapy that helps kids reach their full potential. Please check out the wonderful work they're doing at www.equinosma.org and consider donating your time, talent or money to this worthy cause.

As we look around us, we see our friends, our fellow parishioners, and we realize that we are a family brought together by faith and love. As a family, we pray for one another and we check up on one another.

One way to ensure that the health and safety of each of us is intact, is to have a partner who will call us, not to talk, but to check on us. A twenty second call could save your life or that of your partner. If you or your partner fail to answer the phone, a neighbor or friend with a key will be sent to check on you.

So what do you need to do to start this process? 1. EMAIL pattijain@gmail.com with your name and phone number.

2. Make a copy of your key and ask a friend or neighbor if he/she can be called on to check on you in an emergency. 3. Wait to hear from me. I hope that I can organize a partner for you in less than a week.

St. Paul's Community Development Project is launching a monthly donation effort following the success of the Reverse Advent Project. Parishioners are invited to pick up a grocery item monthly and place it in the large box in the parish hall, to then be distributed to those in need.

June: Canned meats (spam, tuna or chicken)

July: Canned vegetables or fruits

August: Beans and Rice

THE DANI FUND

The Dani fund was established 13 years ago, when Dani was first born and brought to St. Paul’s by Papa Daniel. The fund was used to support Dani with diapers, formula and whatever he needed. As a toddler, he went to live with Claudia and Bruce Stuart, though they were unable to adopt him until recently. The Dani fund has been used to help with Dani’s schooling and medical needs. This is still the case, Dani attends Bereshit Christian School. The fund pays his tuition, textbooks and uniform costs, as well as his medical needs. He has seen a therapist for grief, which the fund also pays for. This has been a rough year for Dani and the fund helps provide him with the stability of a school he likes and therapy to help deal with the changes occurring in his life.

If you have been paying into the Dani fund, either as a one time gift or monthly, thank you. If you are interested in helping, please contact Bonnie Eriksmoen at deriksmoen@aol.com. Your donation is appreciated.

Educafe

is one of St. Paul's Community Development Projects. Educafe.org is a Mexican not-for profit raising educational funds from the sale of coffee grown in Oaxaca and Veracruz. Each bag is priced at 200 pesos, of which 87 pesos goes to a project of your selection. The QR code on the back of each bag allows you to select the project of your choice, a few of which support St. Paul's Community Development Project. Parishioner Geoffrey Drayton leads this effort, and welcomes all questions. Want to see what your coffee purchases are achieving? Glance below:

ST PAUL'S BEREAVEMENT GROUPS: Martha Hamill, thanatologist and bereavement counselor, leads groups in English and in Spanish.
