Reflection for Worship. . .
Headed Toward What Exactly?
Hebrews 11:29-34, 12:1-2
The writers of the Book of Hebrews are working out with their community what the difference is between the faithful persons of the Hebrew Bible and Jesus. Eyewitness accounts of the resurrection and personal testimony, as well as acts of teaching, healing and conversion of followers have presented a quandary - are those Jews that preceded Jesus saved or redeemed in the same way that current followers may be? The answer seems a little disingenuous or simplistic - the text indicates that we are on a journey together - Hebrew Bible figures and current company are all pointed toward Jesus as the “perfecter” of our faith. Were they more than simply faithful to God as they understood Her? Are we trying to be like Jesus or something close? In a reflection entitled “Headed Toward What Exactly”, we will look at what faith “goals” might look like - and whether we want to adopt them! Come join us for worship in the Chapel at 11:30AM Sunday
-Rev. John H Pomeroy
Also This Sunday
-We will hear Alice Dryden sing this week. Accompanying her are Lilly Lukic on flute, with Connie Washburn on piano. We hope to see you there!
-Folks are really enjoying some goodies after church on Sundays. We would like to invite anybody to bring healthy, yummy snacks any week. Just bring them - fruits, veges, healthy baked goods, etc. are especially appreciated. Just hand to Sallie as you enter worship and she'll make sure it gets laid out for coffee hour. We will let you know if we are having lunch provided on a given Sunday (about once per month).
Thanks to all of you who are wearing your name tags each week! It's especially helpful for visitors who are learning people's names. Please wear them as you come to the Fellowship hall each week. Since the name tag kiosk is in the chapel there will be a basket near the exit door in the Fellowship Hall for you to leave your name tag each week. Staff will place it back on the name tag kiosk for you.

Tracking Our Out-Reach Hours
A new activity that we will be doing this Fall is tracking our outreach hours. We do a lot of outreach that goes unnoticed and unrecognized so let's do something about that.
How can you help
? Anytime you engage in outreach that is FCC related, please calculate the amount of time, people and money that is spent; For example, if 4 people serve Union Station for 3 hours each, send that info to Pastor Marlene along with the amount of money you spent on food (Delta Team please send me your August info).
Did you know that Lu Nguyen organized several days of help at Friends in Deed with back to school backpacks and involved 10 people for a total of 60 hours - wow!!! Let's see how many hours, people and funds we are offering. If you are part of a group, please have the leader send me an email. If you buy a bag of supplies for the FID Food Pantry, just send me the amount you spent and how long you shopped. How many hours of outreach can we offer to those beyond us???
