CHILDREN IN WORSHIP

Psalm 98:4 "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise."

At Immanuel we rejoice having children with us in worship!! Will they always be quiet and well behaved? No, but the occasional noise and activity is an important part of the commitment we make at each child's baptism to support their caregivers in faith development and teaching about worship. Thanks be to God!

As previously mentioned, the Transition Team has been developing the draft Senior Pastor Ministry Site Profile (MSP) using the information gathered during the input sessions along with other key information about Immanuel. We are providing MSP for your review prior to the Annual Meeting on January 26, 2025. Text sections as substantially complete but some items, such as references and call committee chair, are still be finalized so you will note TBDs in those areas.

If you have questions or comments, please bring those to the Annual meeting or reach out to myself or any of the Transition Team members. It is our plan to finalize the MSP by early to mid-February. Please continue to keep the Transition team and Immanuel in your prayers during this time of transition.

SERVICE & JUSTICE

OUR IMMIGRANT NEIGHBORS

Update from the Service & Justice Committee

We, your Immanuel Service & Justice Team, share your concerns about our neighbors who are immigrants. We are following our partners’ leads and accompanying them in short- and long-term efforts they indicate are useful. Please call Immanuel’s office (952-937-8123) to volunteer as a notary, lawyer (especially with immigration experience), Spanish-speaker and/or copying assistant. We also anticipate fundraising events with our partners.

The Team also is using guidance and resources from:

We will update you as we receive additional information. If you know someone who is seeking immigration information, please contact us. You can help by supporting local businesses, including restaurants, owned and/or operated by folks who are immigrants. They may be struggling because their usual customers are staying home out of fear.

LITTLE DRESSES FOR AFRICA

Humanitarian relief to the most vulnerable of God’s children: little girls

Looking for something to do these cold winter days? If you can do basic sewing, we have something for you. Pillowcase dresses, made by volunteers from around the world, go out as little ambassadors to plant in the hearts of little girls that they are worthy. As relationships are built, projects are completed through clean water, education and community.

Premade kits are available to make 6 pillowcase dresses. Pick up a kit in the Atrium. Donations of pillowcases, rickrack, bias tape and thread are also welcome. For more information contact Ilene McCluskey 952-941-8471.

LSS REFUGEE SERVICES ADVOCACY

Dear Partners in Welcome,

On January 24, federal funds were frozen for vital refugee resettlement services, leaving newly-arrived refugees without financial support to pay for immediate needs, such as rent, food, medical expenses and other basic needs. Since October 1, we have been working with 387 refugees who are resettling in Minnesota. We can still assist them through private funds and advocacy. Here’s how you can make an immediate impact:

  1. Donate: Please donate now to support the immediate needs of newly-arrived refugees: donate.lssmn.org/resettlement
  2. Advocate: Urge your elected representatives to support refugee programs. We suggest subscribing to Advocacy Alerts from our national partner Global Refuge (LIRS). globalrefuge.org/get-involved/advocate-with-us
  3. Spread the Word: Encourage others to support this urgent need. Follow us on Facebook for news updates and information about our most pressing needs.

Together, we can ensure that refugees continue to find safety, hope and a home in our communities. Thank you for your steadfast support of refugees, and for responding urgently.
