Message from the Rector
In the spirit of personal growth, health and well-being, and the expectation that all clergy attend at some point within the first five years of their ministry, I write to you today with a heart full of anticipation and gratitude for the opportunity to embark on a journey of renewal and reflection. Currently, I am in "preparation mode" to be away from our parish from April 29th to May 6th and spend time at a retreat center in North Carolina with 20 other clergy from all over the country.
During this time, I will be attending a CREDO conference sponsored by the Episcopal Church Pension Group—a multifaceted wellness experience designed to support clergy in nurturing their spiritual, vocational, financial, and physical/psychological health. Since its inception in 1997, CREDO conferences have been described by many as life-changing, offering clergy a space to replenish their spirits and rediscover the passion that first animated their call to ministry.
Through exploration of these four component areas, participants engage in a holistic examination of their health and well-being, culminating in the formulation of a CREDO Rule of Life—a personal covenant that reflects their commitments to God and themselves. This Rule of Life serves as a guiding light, supporting clergy in living out their ministry with renewed vitality and purpose.
I am super excited to take part in this transformative experience, and I carry each of you in my thoughts and prayers as I prepare for this intentional time of prayer and rejuvenation. I am deeply grateful for your understanding and support as I take this time for continuing education and self-reflection. Know that our parish will be in capable hands in my absence (the Ven. Jennifer McKenzie will be with you on Sunday, May 5th--woo hoo!), and I look forward to returning refreshed and inspired, ready to continue our shared ministry together.
Andrew +
PS: If you or a family member is experiencing a pastoral emergency (serious hospitalization or death) while I'm gone, please contact our Senior Warden, Hope Sayles, on her cell phone at (301) 467-1467. (She will know what clergy is covering on what days while I'm gone)
PSS: I look forward to seeing you all in the morning at 9am as we participate in the Spring Campus Clean-Up as prepare for the amazing Calvert Arts Festival on May 11th!!

The crafting/needlework group will be meeting in person next week, Thursday, May 2nd from 1 - 3 pm in the lower level of the parish hall. Many of us are busy making things to sell at the Calvert Arts Festival. We hope you are too!! If you want to pick a project and buy the supplies needed and show us how to do it, that would be great. Reimbursement for supplies is possible, just give me your receipt and I'll submit it to our treasurer. I would say that whatever you pick, be conservative with how many you expect to make. I'd say 6 or less on something untested in a previous year. That's just my opinion. You can also work on something of your own, not a group project, to sell or not.
There is an extra activity on May 2nd at 10 am. We will drag all the crafts out of the closet and price them in the lower level of the parish hall for the Arts Fest. Please join us if you would like to. The more the merrier! We will have lunch out or order in. We expect to finish in time to have a leisurely crafting/needlework session. Also, if you have items in the closet, and have not told anyone what you thought the price should be, please come, contact Cindy Peil bpeil49@gmail.com who is in charge of the craft sales, or let me know what the price should be.
If you would like help learning to knit or crochet, we can help you. I have supplies or if you have some you'd like to use, bring them.
If you would just like to join us to chat, we would be happy to have you, no crafting required. We hope to see you there.
If you would like to be on our mailing list, or if you have any questions, please contact Cindy Overstrom at cynthiaoverstrom@gmail.com or 410-286-8060.

Project Spudnik
All work sessions are from 10 AM to noon.
Project Spudnik next work session is: April 27. We hope you can join us as we play in the dirt to make things grow. Perhaps even in our new high beds! Come check them out!
Bring your gloves! Bring your tools! Bring a friend! Spend Saturday from 10 am to noon in the Spudnik garden. We made lots of dirt last week and now can fill more grow bags to plant transplants (broccoli, cabbage, and Brussel sprouts) and seeds (beets, spinach, carrots, lettuce, kale and radish). Check out our new high beds and see which have sprouts just peeking up from the dirt!

Come join fellow parishioners. Bring your family, friends, rakes, tarps, gloves, blowers, wheelbarrows. ECW will once again provide refreshments, snacks and a lite lunch. If there are questions please contact Glenn Iona, Filo Blake or David Lippe. Their contact information is in the Sunday service bulletins or the online Instant Church Directory.

This year's National Day of Prayer event, will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at noon, on the Old Courthouse lawn in Prince Frederick. This event is hosted by Dunkirk Baptist Church, with publicity and support from the Calvert Interfaith Council (CIC).
Please Plan Attend!
| The CommUNITY Prayer Walk 2024 will be held on Sunday, May 4th at the Prince Frederick Shopping Center, 26 S Solomons Island Road, beginning at 10 AM. We are asking again this year that on Sunday, May 5th, every Church leave their Church Building; leaving the comfort of the seats to go into the Streets, (walking and praying in their own neighborhood. | |
The May wine tasting will be held on May 5th at 4:00, one week earlier than usual due to Mother's day, which is the following week.
Cindy and John Overstrom will be hosting, and the theme for this month is "Cinco de Mayo". We will be tasting wines of Mexico, (with a couple from South America filling in). We have not sampled any of these yet but we have been told they are quite good. So come and join us for a Mexican themed tasting.
As usual, bring a dish to share with everyone and we will be voting for our favorite wines via cash donations to a charity we select at the tasting.
If you plan to attend please RSVP to John at joverstrom01@gmail.com or 410-286-8060.
Our address is 5808 Red Octopus Drive. GPS works well to get you here, but the driveway can be confusing. Immediately at the entrance from the road bear to the left and go up a slight hill. From there bear to the left at any fork in the road. This will put you to the left of a row of pine trees, our house is beyond the trees. We have plenty of parking space.

Calvert Arts Festival News

| | Some folks wonder WHY host various events at All Saints Episcopal Church? Some events are quite large, like the Calvert Arts Festival, and it takes way more than a little planning, coordination and a few hands to pull off such an important event in and for our Calvert community. We are called to help those who are less fortunate than we are...those who need special care. We are called to LOVE OUR NEIGHBORS. That's the best part of our mission! We need you to HELP us make this the BEST Calvert Arts Fest yet! We need you to HELP us earn $10,000 (or more) for distribution to our chosen beneficiaries! This year, our beneficiaries are Calvert Concept Charitable Corporation (C4), Project Echo, Calvert County Churches Food Pantry, Community Ministry of Calvert County and Child Advocacy Center. All are non-profit organizations in Calvert County that provide much needed services and resources to families, and especially children, in Calvert County. You can make a difference in the lives of others in Calvert County! That's WHY we do it! |
Calling All All Saints' Bakers!
Baked Goods are needed for the ECW Bake Sale at the 2024 Calvert Arts Festival! We need you to bring your favorite baked items for us to fill our table. Cakes, pies, cookies, muffins, bread, and candy will be welcomed and will have a temporary home on our Baked Goods table. Artisans typically search out our table before the festival begins to have something delicious to munch on during the day. Our event guests are always in search of a snack or a yummy dessert to take home. You can help our fundraising efforts and keep our Calvert community happy by baking for us. The more baked goodies, the merrier! If you have any questions, please call or text Deb Shupe (410-231-8150).
