ANNOUNCEMENTS

Message from the Rector

As we prepare to welcome the 18th annual Calvert Arts Festival tomorrow, I can hardly contain my excitement. This vibrant celebration of local artisans, talent, food and fellowship has become a cherished tradition, and I am thrilled to invite each and every one of you to join in the festivities.

But before we dive into the excitement of tomorrow, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to all who have played a part in making this event possible. From the dedicated volunteers who have poured their time and energy into planning and organizing, to the talented artisans who will showcase their creations, and to every member of our congregation who has offered their support in countless ways — thank you. It truly takes a village, and I am continually inspired by the generosity and spirit of service that infuses our community.

As we gather together for fun and fellowship, let us also remember the deeper purpose behind this festival. Each year, the Calvert Arts Festival raises vital funds for local non-profits, supporting their invaluable work in our community. In this, we see a shining example of how we, as a congregation, have answered God's call for years. We have recognized the need to uplift and serve those around us, and through events like this, we continue to walk in the footsteps of our divine calling.

In our current season of visioning, as we discern how best to continue God's call in our lives and in our community, let us find inspiration in the joy and unity of the Calvert Arts Festival. May it remind us that our journey of faith is not only about introspection and prayer, but also about action and engagement with the world around us. As we come together to welcome hundreds of visitors and have a blast doing it, let us renew our commitment to living out God's love in all that we do.

So, All Saints Parish, I invite you to join us tomorrow for a day filled with laughter, generosity, and FUN! Let us come together to celebrate the gifts of our community, and to reaffirm our shared mission of love and service. Together, we will continue to heed God's call, now and always.

PS- Don't forget to join Barbara Brown, our Prayer Warden, on Wednesdays at 10:45am via Zoom for time dedicated to praying for our church during our visioning process. To join, click this HYPERLINK.

         CPR/AED Training

Recently, many of our ushers took CPR and AED Training. Our ushers learned how to administer CPR and AED. Congratulations to our ushers. We now need to purchase an AED (automated external defibrillator) to use in case of an emergency.  I am asking you to please help contribute to purchasing a defibrillator which costs approximately $1,500. In the memo space of a check or Easy Tithe, please write Purchase an AED. Thank you in advance for helping us with this project.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about CPR and/or AED. I can be reached on (301) 467-1467 or ahopesayles@aol.com.

Peace,

Adriane Hope Sayles

The crafting/needlework group will be meeting in person next week, Thursday, May 16th from 1 - 3 pm in the lounge of the parish hall upstairs.

If you would like help learning to knit or crochet, we can help you. I have supplies or if you have some you'd like to use, bring them.

If you would just like to join us to chat, we would be happy to have you, no crafting required. We hope to see you there.

If you would like to be on our mailing list, or if you have any questions, please contact Cindy Overstrom at cynthiaoverstrom@gmail.com or 410-286-8060.

Project Spudnik

Learn how your freshest food comes from the ground, not your local grocery store!
Project Spudnik's next work sessions are from 10 AM to noon, May 18 and 25; June 8 and 22.  We hope you can join us as we play in the dirt to make things grow. Check out our new high beds, perfect spots to garden for those who can want to roll up in their wheel chairs or need to use a walker.

Bring your gloves! Bring your tools! Bring a friend! We've already started to harvest spring crops.

As always, youth volunteers receive community service credit for their work in the garden, as all produce grown is given to area food banks. Master Gardener Mimi Miller (millerfam1976@verizon.net) can answer any questions you may have about Project Spudnik.

Come on out and bring a friend!

The Men's Breakfast is always the first Saturday of every month at 9:00 am at Traders Restaurant in Chesapeake Beach. Jim Thrift, our convener, will be in attendance setting up the room before 9:00. The breakfasts are for all Christian men for fellowship and fun. We discuss most everything except religion. Plan to attend and bring a friend as all are welcome, especially newcomers. If you attend you'll have fun, if you don't, we'll talk about you.

Calvert Arts Festival News

After months of preparation, the 18th Annual Calvert Arts Festival is finally here. If you stop by the campus, you will find many folks busily working on setting up tables and tents and flags and more. This afternoon, many artisans will stop by to set up their spaces. Today is a BUSY, BUSY day!

It looks like many folks have been doing their sun dance because the weather forecast looks to be fine on Saturday...partly sunny with comfortable temps!

A few reminders:

---Bake sale goodies can be delivered to the Parish Hall today or by 9 AM tomorrow morning.

---If you are volunteering and have an All Saints' shirt, please wear it!

---Wine and beer glasses (and tasting wristbands) can be purchased at the Admin Tent at the North entrance (bottom of the hill).

---If you are relatively new to All Saints' Parish, take a minute to stop by the church to learn a bit of our All Saints history. Docents will be available throughout the day!

---While you are at the festival, take some time to relax and listen to LIVE music on the lawn between the Parish Hall and the church. The music schedule is below!

---While there are several food trucks that will be available for lunch or snacks, don't forget that the Back Door Café, sponsored by the ECW, will be open for business. The prices are reasonable and won't break the bank...and the food is delicious! The menu is below.

---The festival is kid-friendly! Purchase a lemonade cup at the Admin tent and kids can enjoy unlimited refills throughout the day. Children are welcome to stop by the Children's Craft area to make a Mother's Day gift for Mom!

---Our knitters, crocheters and crafters have been busy for months creating items to sell at the ECW craft table. Be sure to stop by. Perhaps you will find the perfect gift for Mom!

---Be sure to stop by the Silent Auction upstairs in the Upper Level Parish Hall. Many unique items have been donated, so stop by, check it out, bid early and bid often!

Thanks to those who helped publicize tomorrow's Calvert Arts Festival by displaying our car magnet advertising on their vehicles. Your marketing helped us reach different parts of our wider community. Please leave the magnets in the back of the church in Steve's corner so they can be saved for CAF 2025. Cheers to each of you!

Estate Planning Workshop on Sunday, May 26th at 9:15 a.m.

Rose Crunkleton, a local Estate Attorney, will be back at All Saints to lead a workshop on Estate Planning. While this is not something we often like to talk about, planning for our estates is an important task we need to undertake while we are able. Rose will talk about the mechanics of wills and trusts. She will also highlight tax strategies that can benefit us now and help our beneficiaries down the road. This also is a good time to consider including All Saints in your estate planning. For further information, please call Ken McKenzie at 703-675-4476
