From Boom to Bust and Back: How PR Pros Can Weather the Cycles
The talk of tech startup "unicorns" has peaked and we're seeing a backlash as VC funding shows, IPOs dwindle, stock prices fall and layoffs and shutdowns emerge.  The market is turning but this time it should be less painful than previous downturns when the industry was younger or merely a casualty of a broader financial crisis.

Join Bateman Group and a panel of PR professionals who have survived previous market cycles to hear candid discussion about what they've learned during the ups and downs in the tech industry. Topics will include:
  • How to prepare for a downturn
  • Strategies for building out your network
  • Which skills are most important for the long term
  • How to make a market bubble work for you
  • Sam Whitmore, founder and editor, Media Survey
  • Sarah Cain, Head of Communications, Prosper
  • Netta Conyers-Haynes, Board Member at Large, PRSA San Francisco; Head of Internal Communications, North America, Facebook
  • Larry Yu, Marketing Partner, Accel Partners
  • Amy Ziari, Director of Content and Media Strategy, Bateman Group

Meet Shannon Eliot
Communications Manager

Why did you join PRSA and what is one of your favorite benefits that the organization provides?

I joined PRSA to meet other professionals and stay apprised of updates in the field. One my favorite benefits is the on-demand webinar series, which I feel has saved me more than a few times. Working in the nonprofit sector, I often find myself as the highest-ranking professional in my field within my organization and don't always have a mentor. In such a situation, I take a DIY approach to my professional development, and PRSA has been hugely helpful with that.
