Dear Family Members and Responsible Parties,

The health and safety of everyone in our Weinberg Campus community is of utmost importance to us. For that reason, and out of an abundance of caution, I am writing to notify you that one of our residents has a confirmed case of COVID-19. We learned of the diagnosis after the resident was admitted to the hospital. We are sending our heartfelt get-well wishes to this individual and their loved ones.

We want to reassure you that we have been taking every step recommended by authorities to protect you from the spread of the virus. When we were informed of the diagnosis, we immediately contacted the New York State Department of Health and the Erie County Department of Health for guidance and we began implementing additional safety measures above and beyond the vigilant protocols we already had in place. A deep cleaning of relevant areas has been completed by an outside cleaning company, and the frequency of daily health screenings has been increased for both residents who receive health services and employees.

I also want to take the opportunity to remind you of measures you can take to protect yourself from COVID-19. These include:
1.       Wash your hands with soap and water frequently for at least 20 seconds.
2.       If soap and water is not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
3.       Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
4.       Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you do not have a tissue use your elbow, not your hand.
5.       Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
6.       Continue to practice social distancing.

We understand that you may have questions about your safety or the safety of your loved ones and we are happy to talk with you . You can rest assured that our team is fully trained to address COVID-19 to the best extent possible and we are doing everything we can to protect the residents living in all of our communities.

We also understand that the “no visitor” restriction currently in place is challenging. Our dedicated staff members across all areas of the Campus are making heroic efforts to provide interaction, attention and safe activities throughout these difficult circumstances. I hope you’ll join me in thanking them for leaving their own families to come to work to care for our Weinberg family.

Please stay safe and healthy,
Bob Mayer
