Message From The President
|
|
|
When I reflect back to last June, we were getting Weinberg Campus ready to host our annual summer pops series - a time when we opened our doors to the Buffalo area community to join our residents, families and staff members for an evening of outdoor entertainment from our region's top talent. We typically had about 600 people in attendance, and it was always a great time.
This June, our summer line up of activities looks drastically different than it did one year ago.
While New York State is re-opening businesses in phases, Weinberg Campus continues to follow Department of Health guidelines in our ongoing effort to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19. This means that, for now, we are required to maintain visitor restrictions along with staff and resident screenings and safety protocols.
So what does this mean for our summer fun? It means that our activities personnel have been working hard to adapt to our pandemic environment with creative activities that can be done safely in a supervised environment - gardening, virtual concerts, doorway ice cream deliveries - to name a few. While we won't be holding a public concert this season, the health and well being of our residents and employees remains our top priority.
We are not taking for granted our current success in containing COVID-19 on our Campus. I want to thank our outstanding employees for this result. I'd also like to thank our brave residents and family members. Your overwhelming support has played a key role in boosting employee morale during the fight against the coronavirus. We know that circumstances with the virus can change at any time, and we will not let our guard down. Thanks again for your support. We're all in this together.
Weinberg Campus is committed to open communications with our employees, residents, and family members. For more information about our response to COVID-19, please visit

"We are sorry that many of this spring's graduating seniors did not get the chance to walk across the stage to receive their diplomas," said a resident spokesperson. "We would like new grads to know that we're thinking of them, we're proud of them, and we hope things get better."
In addition to sharing their warm wishes, residents compiled their collective advice and mantras for success to pass along.
- Money isn't everything.
- Follow your path.
- Love and help people.
- Be kind.

We are very proud of the efforts of our outstanding staff. Their caring attitudes, compliance with infection control guidelines, and thorough disinfection practices are daily demonstrations of their commitment and dedication to others.
Our team continues to follow Department of Health guidelines and infection control practices. This includes:
- Staff and resident screenings for symptoms.
- Comprehensive cleaning and disinfection, and the use of pulsed UV technology proven to eliminate pathogens such as coronavirus from surfaces in seconds.
- Wearing face masks and other personal protective equipment.
- Practicing social distancing by staying a minimum of 6 feet away from others.
- Reporting confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases to families, staff members and the Department of Health.
- Continuing visitor restrictions.
In addition to the measures above, we implemented Governor Cuomo’s executive order of twice weekly COVID-19 testing of our staff. Due to the overall decline in cases across the state, on June 10
th
Governor Cuomo amended the executive order to allow nursing home and adult care communities to reduce testing of staff to once a week for regions that have entered into Phase 2 of reopening plans. This includes Buffalo and all other areas of New York State except for New York City.
“The continued weekly testing mandate will continue to protect our nursing home residents and the front line workers who support them,” Howard Zucker, M.D., J.D., New York State Commissioner of Health, wrote in a statement.

Holly,
I just wanted to send you a note thanking you and your entire staff for the job you are all doing in these troubling times. [My mom] raves about you and all your people about what a terrific job you are all doing. I’m sure you go home exhausted every night and I wanted to let you know how much we appreciate you and all the staff. We made a great decision when we decided to go to Weinberg. Hopefully better times coming.

Matt,
I contacted you at the beginning of the COVID outbreak asking for better information concerning patient safety, specifically at Rosa Coplon where my mother-in-law lives. You immediately addressed my concerns. Your daily reporting has been so reassuring and the latest numbers show what a great job you and your staff have done during this crazy, unprecedented time. There was no playbook for any of us but you stepped up. We especially appreciate the opportunity to Skype with [our family member], and Rob, the social worker, continues to do a great job with that.
I know this is long from being over but I wanted to take the time to thank you and the Rosa Coplon staff for everything they have done. I’m sure they were under a great amount of pressure and fear for themselves and their families but bless them as they took care of our family throughout. Please share our thanks with them.
