Governor Polis Vetos 10 Bills

Including Agricultural Land in Urban Renewal Areas SB 23-273: Like the open-meetings bill, SB23-273 seemed trained at one specific actor. In this case, that was a real estate development in Loveland. The bill would’ve closed what sponsors say is a “loophole” in state law surrounding urban renewal land and — they say — prevent sprawl and protect agricultural land.

But supporters of the development told Colorado Public Radio that the bill would’ve put their work in “limbo,” and Polis said he was concerned about the “ramifications that retroactively altering existing statute” may have.

Below are more bills vetoed by the governor. To read more, click the links.

Deceptive Event Ticket Sales Amendment SB23-060

Right of First Refusal for Affordable Housing HB23-1190

Task Force to Study the Costs of Drug Crimes HB 23-1258

Open Meetings Law Provisions HB 23-1259

Allowing Casinos to Issue $1K-plus Credit to Some Patrons SB 23-259

Disallowing Action against employees taking cash tips HB 23-1146

Wolf reintroduction delays SB 23-256

Voucher system for driver’s license costs HB 23-1147

Creation of an ‘executive clemency representative’ HB 23-1214

Youth of Loveland - Join the Colorado Youth Advisory Council

The legislature’s nonpartisan Colorado Youth Advisory Council (COYAC) has openings for new members across the state for the 2023-25 term. Applications are due June 19.

The Colorado Legislature created the Colorado Youth Advisory Council (COYAC) in 2008 to give Colorado’s youth ages 14-19 a voice in lawmaking. Each summer, members propose policy ideas to a committee of legislators.

I am so honored to serve on this committee and learn more from the youth in Colorado.

Grace Gardens - Loveland Habitat for Humanity

I had the incredible opportunity to visit Grace Gardens—an inspiring project led by Habitat for Humanity that aims to offer affordable housing.

In a world where prices seem to skyrocket across all sectors, the challenges of purchasing a home have become increasingly daunting. That's why projects like Grace Gardens hold immense importance.

This development has the potential to make a profound impact on families in Loveland, providing them with the hope and stability they deserve.

HB23-1189 Employee Assistance for Home Purchase Tax Credit

HR23-1189 was signed by the governor today! This bill creates a state income tax credit for employers who want to help their employees purchase a primary home.

Employers can contribute up to $5K per employee. I truly believe this bill will help so many people purchase a home and make Colorado a little more affordable.

Western Conservative Summit

This weekend I attended the Western Conservative Summit. I met some amazing activists and lawmakers. I was also awarded the Faith, Family and Freedom Award. It was a joy to be a part of one of the largest conservative events in the country!

D-Day Anniversary

This past week marked the 79th anniversary of D-Day. On June 6th, 1944, brave soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy, sacrificing everything for the cause of freedom and liberation. Let us honor their courage, resilience, and ultimate sacrifice as we remember the heroes who fought for a better world.

I am reminded and thankful to all the brave and women that have fought and continue to fight for the freedom of our country.

Loveland Fire and Rescue Retirement

This week we celebrated the retirement of Lieutenant Cy Pollema after 27 years of service to the LFRA and Loveland Community. God bless and thank you for your service.
