The Center for Accessible Education Team welcomes you back to UCLA for the Winter 2024 quarter! Check out a few updates below, including important reminders about accommodation procedures!
|
As a reminder, CAE often sets deadlines for important accommodation tasks! For the Winter Quarter 2024, please observe the following important dates:
7 Days Prior to an Exam: Deadline to Schedule an Exam
Late January: 2024-2025 Housing Accommodation Application Opens
March 3rd: Last Day to Schedule Final Exams with Testing Center
March 8th: Date to Apply for/Revise Accommodations By for Implementation by Finals
March 16th - 22nd: Finals Week

| |
|
As we are in the beginning of Winter Quarter, please be reminded that ALL students requiring exam proctoring support will need to book their individual exams through CAE’s Student Portal (“Book a Test” link). For assistance, please utilize the following online tutorial (STUDENT EXAM BOOKING TUTORIAL).
Please note all tests must be booked 7-days prior to the exam date.
Any booking attempts outside of this notice will NOT be accepted online and are not guaranteed to be accommodated as testing space is extremely limited. Once you receive your course syllabus, please proceed to booking your exams for ALL classes.
In preparation of the extreme volume of Final Exam requests, the link to book exams will be deactivated on Sunday March 3rd (2-weeks prior to finals). Should you miss this deadline you may need to make alternative arrangements with your instructor.
Any questions regarding this exam booking process or testing accommodations should be directed to CAETesting@saonet.ucla.edu or our Testing Center Drop-In Hours (Mon-Thurs 12-1pm PST).
***Please proceed now to book ALL EXAMS for the entire quarter for all of your courses that have testing dates. It is extremely vital to do so as soon as possible so we can properly plan to accommodate you***

Adjusted Deadlines Accommodation Reminder
If you have adjusted deadline accommodations eligilbity, please remember that our process for making deadline extension request has changed!!! You no longer need to request each individual deadline extension through the standard CAE form. To make the process easier for requesting deadline extensions in your courses, we have established a set of general parameters for applying the adjusted deadline accommodation in courses that students and faculty should follow:
- Requests for extensions that fall under the below general parameters must be requested directly with the instructor.
- For most assignments and course components (e.g., discussion board activities, reflection papers less than 10 pages in length, homework, lab reports, problem sets), a 48 hour extension should generally be allowed by the instructor.
- For larger, cumulative assignments and major course assessments (e.g., term papers more than 10 pages in length, capstone projects), a 72 hour extension should generally be allowed by the instructor.
- For individual presentations, students should be reassigned to a later date not to exceed a week from the original presentation date.
- This accommodation generally does not apply to group presentations or group-based work (e.g., group briefs, team-based activities).
- This accommodation also generally does not apply to exams, quizzes, or finals. Students needing to postpone exams, quizzes, or finals should speak with their Disability Specialist about an adjusted attendance accommodation.
- All requests for this type of accommodation cannot extend a deadline beyond the end of the term and are subject to individual review by a CAE Specialist in consultation with your instructor.
Requests for deadline extensions beyond the above general parameters may be considered on a case-by-case basis, but are more likely to be considered unreasonable. If your faculty have concerns about whether the general parameters can apply to the course, they may establish an alternative agreement for the accommodation in consultation with your Disability Specialist. If you instructor is not providing the accommodation in accordance with the general parameters or the alternative accommodation agreement, please reach out to your Disability Specialist for support.

Adjusted Attendance Accommodation Reminder
If you have adjusted attendance accommodations eligilbity, please remember that our process for making absence requests has changed!!! You no longer need to request each individual absence through the standard CAE form. To make the process easier for requesting absences in your courses, we have established a set of general parameters for applying the adjusted attendance accommodation in courses that students and faculty should follow:
- Requests for extensions that fall under the below general parameters must be requested directly with the instructor.
- In most courses, a student should not miss more than 20% of the scheduled course meetings. This means that students should generally only miss 6 absences for a course that meetings 3 times a week, 4 absences for a course that meets twice a week, and 2 absences for a course that meets once a week.
- Student should report absences that fall under these general parameters directly to their instructors.
- For missed exams, quizzes, and finals, students are responsible for scheduling a makeup with their instructor and the CAE Testing Center.
- For seminars or other courses in which in-person activities are critical to the learning outcomes, these parameters may shift upon negotiation with the instructor and/or the student.
Requests for absences beyond the above general parameters may be considered on a case-by-case basis, but are more likely to be considered unreasonable. If your faculty have concerns about whether the general parameters can apply to the course, they may establish an alternative agreement for the accommodation in consultation with your Disability Specialist.
