Dear members of the Beaver community,

It is my honor to be writing to you today to acknowledge and celebrate an important moment for Beaver. I am delighted to share that on June 29th, Kim Samson will officially join Beaver as our 8th Head of School. As you know from previous updates, Kim’s appointment was unanimously supported by our Board of Trustees in September 2019 after a national search. Leadership transition began soon after her appointment and we are so grateful that the process included so much collaborative work with trustees, faculty, and students.

In recruiting Kim, we saw her potential to be an excellent fit for Beaver, and we now have the firsthand experience that allows us to appreciate and see for ourselves that she is a great choice. Strong leadership at any transition point in a community is critical, and we feel confident about our current vision to expand the nature of school for students and teachers with Kim and Beaver’s seasoned management team at the reins.

These past six months have reinforced that we are an incredibly resilient and forward-thinking community. Beaver is fortunate to have a leader who brings such strength in diversity, equity and inclusion and social justice given all that has been happening in the world from grappling with systemic racism, a public health crisis, and the economy. This real work has always been, and will continue to be, central to our mindset.

On behalf of the entire Beaver community, I wish Kim Samson great success and pledge my support and partnership as she begins her role as Head, in leading our outstanding school on the trajectory of success established by her predecessors.

Speaking of predecessors, I want to take one last moment to thank Peter Hutton, who closes out his 28-year career leading our school this month. I hope you enjoyed The Hutton Report we mailed home, as well as the email you received earlier this week – a farewell from our community to him. If you would like to see and hear tributes to Peter, you can access content here . I am pleased to share that The Hutton Explore Endowment Fund has grown to over $1M. What a wonderful way to celebrate the indelible mark Peter has left on our school.

My best wishes to you for a wonderful summer.

Sincerely,

Tomas Bergstrand
President, Board of Trustees
