OUR BIG NEWS!
WELCOME, Trendy Stanchfield!
We are pleased to welcome Trendy Stanchfield as the new Executive Director of Coastal Humane Society and Lincoln County Animal Shelter!

Trendy comes to us from northern Minnesota, where she spent 14 years working as the Regional Director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the Minneapolis area. She moved to Maine six years ago, joining Goodwill Northern New England as their Senior Director of Mission Investment.

In her work for nonprofits throughout her career, Trendy has helped create programming, raise funds to support mission services, and develop teams across multi-campus organizations. (Sound familiar?)

Trendy lives in Brunswick with her husband and their three sons (two human, one feline). Last fall, Trendy and family welcomed a lovable 9-year-old tuxedo cat named Ermie into their home, adopted from Coastal Humane Society.

We hope you'll join us in welcoming Trendy!
Want to catch up? She'd love to meet you! Email her at tstanchfield@coastalhumanesociety.org or call her at 449-1366 extension 4.

Obedience Classes - Drop In Puppy Playtime, Too!
We offer drop-in Puppy Playtime every Saturday from 3 - 4 p.m. at 190 Pleasant Street in Brunswick! Puppies form their social skills at a young age, and it’s important to get off on the right paw in order to lay the foundation for safe and fun interaction with other dogs. Our weekly drop-in Puppy Playtime is an opportunity for puppies (and their owners) to learn how to behave around other dogs. Puppies 2-8 months old willinteract with each other off-leash under close supervision, while learning things like how to greet other dogs politely, how to be gentle with their teeth during play, and how to read social cues to determine whether another dog wants to play or not.

Without these vital socialization skills, puppies can grow up to have difficulty communicating normally with other dogs, putting them at high risk for anxiety or aggression in social situations.

Our instructor Mike will also help you , as a pet owner, identify what is safe. You'll learn how to recognize normal play vs. bullying, when and how to intervene if things become too rough, and how to identify good playmates for your puppy based on his/her play style.  Each drop-in session is $10, paid at the door; cash or check only.
Start Off on the Right Paw
We're thrilled to be offering 6-week obedience instruction starting in January for dogs and owners with any amount of experience! Prices are competitive - just $100 for six classes - and classes are taught by our own dog whisperer and Dog Program Coordinator, Mike Gould. CHS and LCAS alumni receive 10% off, too! All proceeds from our classes benefit shelter pets. Read more about our upcoming classes Puppy Playtime, Manners I and Manners II here.

GOOD MEWS
Time to Break Out the Catio Furniture
Lincoln County Animal Shelter has been awarded funding to build an outdoor cat enclosure off of our adoptable cats room! The generous support comes from the Norman N. and Gale R. Hochgraf Charitable Foundation. The "catio" will give our LCAS cats safe access to fresh air and additional space, which helps to keep kitties happy and healthy. We'll be breaking ground on the catio later this spring!
Roxy, an adoptable senior kitty at LCAS, is tremendously happy about the catio. She will find the perfect cushions for the chaise, and enjoy her catnip in the sun.

OUR TRIBUTE TO A VERY AWESOME LADY
Jackie Perfetto
FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS
With great sadness, we share the news of the passing of a very special volunteer, Jackie Perfetto. She was an incredibly kind, passionate, and endlessly witty woman who gave her time and energy to the animals of Coastal Humane for the last 6 years. Her passing is a great loss to us all.

She was a strong and persistent advocate for those without a voice. We were so lucky to have her support and her friendship. The shelter isn't the same without her.

In honor of Jackie's many years of service and friendship, we are awarding her Volunteer of the Month for January. You'll be in our hearts always, Jackie!
Adopt Me!
He's got his, er, eye on you...
WE EXS PECK YOU'LL REALLY LOVE HIM!
Meet Speck
Speck came to Coastal Humane Society in July as a local surrender, because he wasn't getting along with the other dogs in his "pack." You might notice he's missing one key facial feature, his right eye. He lost it as a young puppy when a littermate scratched it. He doesn't let that stop him from being playful, adventurous, and lovable! He would be best suited to be an only pet-child at home, without other dogs and no cats. He LOVES to be outside, as he's spent most of his life outdoors and is most comfortable there. This means he could improve his manners inside the house, but we can give you some tips on how to work with him on that.

He's been with us since July, and is a favorite among staff and volunteers. One kind lady has even already paid his adoption fee to help him go home sooner!
Can you give this lovable goof a loving home?
