Dear Putnam Valley Community:

Please take a few minutes and read through this newsletter. We encourage you to take advantage of various ways to stay connected, including checking our website where you will find messages from our principals, easy access to community notices, and answers to many questions you may have.

Additionally, on the district page of the website, you will find a list of our Board of Education Meeting videos. We are currently immersed in the development of our 2024-25 school budget and we encourage you to follow this process. Presentations from our building and department leaders are linked here:

Board meetings are open to the public. To reach a larger audience, informal budget information sessions will be scheduled to offer community members a variety of opportunities to provide feedback or ask questions regarding our proposed budget.

We are proud to share that the Putnam Valley School District continues to gain recognition across the region, state, and country. I recently had a conversation with a father currently residing in Colorado who is considering relocating his family to our region and is drawn to the Putnam Valley School District out of the many options in the New York Metropolitan area.  It is evident families are looking to relocate to our community and enroll their children in our schools as we have welcomed over 100 resident students into our district since the beginning of the school year.  Our amazing community, dedicated staff, and engaged families make Putnam Valley an exceptional place to be.

Thank you for your partnership,

Dr. Jeremy Luft

Off to a Great Start in PVCSD!

Learning and Leading! All members of our Putnam Valley school community are learners and leaders, whether we are in the classroom, at a conference, or on the field. This month, our K - 12 Writing Committee met for the first time to develop a Writing Continuum for the district. Criminal Law students at PVHS put Hamlet on trial live, with our film students capturing every riveting moment and challenging cross-examination. Dr. Gerry Micera presented at a national conference of fellow choral directors, bringing strategies for managing anxiety in young performers. We are so proud of all of our students and colleagues for their passion and dedication to learning at all levels!

Welcoming Families! PVCSD colleagues are inviting families into our buildings for great parent learning opportunities and celebrations. Our elementary school colleagues welcomed K - 2 families to learn all about literacy in the earliest years of their education. At the High School, our guidance counselors invited junior parents to learn all about the college process. Our PVMS Student of the Month Breakfasts celebrate our students while celebrating our very important Learner Profile Attributes!

Amazing Concerts and Artwork! Our students delighted audiences throughout the month of January with beautiful and inspiring musical performances. From high school chorus and band performances (including a surprise Tango treat!) to the fourth grade concert, our school community had the privilege of seeing just how talented PVCSD is at every level! Thank you to our amazing music department for all of their hard work and dedication; they have had a profound impact on our students and have inspired a true love of performance art throughout the district!

#TigerPride News:

Eduardo Recinos: Heart of a Giant

Before the holidays, we were absolutely thrilled to announce that our very own Eduardo Recinos had been selected, out of thousands of applicants in the

tri-state area, as the Heart of a Giant Award winner. This prestigious award, presented by the New York Giants, Hospital for Special Surgery, and USA Football, highlights students who display a relentless work ethic and an unmatched love of the game. For those who know Eduardo, you know that there is no one more deserving!

On December 6, the team traveled to Metlife Stadium to surprise and support Eduardo as he learned he was the award winner! Eduardo was surrounded by his family and teammates and was presented the award by NY Giants Quarterback Daniel Jones!

Eduardo is the first-ever non-player recipient of the award and has raised the bar for all future honorees. It was a special and emotional moment for all in attendance. At our January 18 Board of Education meeting, we presented Eduardo with Pride In Putnam Valley.

Please watch the Giants video above. Below, please watch the video directed and produced by our very own high school senior Sierra Gabriel.

Thank you to all those who voted for Eduardo and for your continued support of our student-athletes, teams, and athletic programs.

THANK YOU Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department

With gratitude and deep appreciation, we present Pride In Putnam Valley to the members of the PVVFD for their willingness to volunteer their time and take personal risks to protect

the Putnam Valley community.

We also extend our gratitude for all the department does especially for the students of the Putnam Valley School District. The department members consistently go above and beyond, giving up more of their limited free time to provide their knowledge, experiences, and resources.

As community volunteers, you are mentors to our children

and everyday heroes of our community.

Collaboration at PVMS Library

Ms. Hochberg welcomed our 7th-grade ELA and ELA-ENL classes to the Learning Commons this month, showing students books about refugees available to them and showing them how to best use the Learning Commons. The experience certainly enhanced their reading of A Long Walk to Water.

Next time, this class will explore Dystopian literature with Ms. Hochberg after they read The Giver in class.
