Weekly Update From World Academy
Dear Wonderful Families,

As we navigate these troubled waters together, we would like to be your supportive light. As we persevere on this journey, please know that when it is safe, we will be back together, better and stronger than ever. In the meantime, we would like to hear from you about how you are doing during this awful pandemic. Please feel free to share a lighter moment you have experienced recently. Sometimes crying or laughing are the only options left, and laughing feels better right now. Remember we are in this together. Let us know how we can steer this ship in a way that can support you and your family.

Warm Regards,
Kathy and Lisa for all of us
President and Head of School
Thank Yous, Reminders and Kudos
Many thanks to all of our families who have given us guidance in trying to decipher the Stimulus package caveats. It is an ongoing challenge!

Much gratitude to our World Academy Advisory Board Members who are guiding us through this very hard time.
Only Catering lunch and Pizza/Mr. Mac's orders that were placed for 3/17-4/30 have been credited back to your account. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please reach out to Brooke Shaw at [email protected].
Mr. Michael’s Drama Classes will be credited even though there were three classes. He misses all of his theatre students and looks forward to seeing them again soon!!
We can use some GOOD NEWS! Congratulations to Third Grader, Gretchen Hamler in Miss Hill's class who was one of the winners (out of 256 from NH schools) in the Casella Calendar Art Contest. Mrs. Iannone was able to share the news with Gretchen and Miss Hill's class this week. Bravo, Gretchen!
Community Resources
In addition to our normal school updates in Coordinates , we will also be sharing different resources and ideas to help support families during remote learning.
When asked to describe his #1 tip for home education, Andrew Campanella, President of National School Choice Week, said this:

“Recognize that this IS NOT a normal time, and that you DO NOT need to mimic or replicate a traditional school setting in your home. So, if you only do one thing: Encourage your child to discover something productive that sparks his or her curiosity. Then, research it, learn more about it as a family, write about it, and discover the math and science surrounding it. Experts say curiosity is not only a bridge to learning, but to happiness.”

Mr. Michael's newest videos are VERY relatable for all our parents trying to work from home with their children, and for everyone confused by TP hoarding!
This unexpected "stay home time" is stressful because it is under scary circumstances, but how many times do we hear parents of children in high school or college say, "I miss that when they were little, I wish I could have that time back. It went too fast!"? COVID-19 has forced us to stop, but why not try to maximize on this pause with your children and make some memories during this time that everyone can reflect back on positively? This will be a time many of them will remember forever, so let them remember how much fun they had with their family instead of all the scary stuff. You won't regret it!
Just an FYI from Mrs. Chiccarelli and Mrs. Tucker...
We have rescheduled our Daddy/Daughter dance to September 11th. Keep those boots ready to dance as soon as the new school year begins. We will also be doing the same with Movies with Mom. That date will be forthcoming!!

Forty for Forty
We have not forgotten our very generous 40 for 40 donators and their students. They were to be recognized at the Alumni Basketball Game that never was due to the virus. We will be celebrating those people in the next Coordinates to thank all for your wonderful support. This year will be remembered for a VERY long time!
Legoman Dan Google Classroom
Legoman Dan has developed a Google Classroom for students to be able to participate in various robotics, coding, and LEGO activities. Over the next few weeks, he will be adding several lessons for Grades K-8 to the classroom for students to try. Since Legoman Dan can’t be onsite to do our field trips with students, he is designing in-home field trips to get them some STEM activities. The apps he will be using are all free and most are website based making it easy for students.  Click here for the link for parents to register their students.
Students will not be able to access the classroom until they register and receive an invite.

The first class that has been created is a Scratch coding class where the students will learn how to build a soccer game with scratch. The class has nine lessons from 5-7 minutes long each. When students are done they will have a fun game to play with their family! See the video below to see what will be built!

Seen Around Our 'World'
Remote Learning
We have been loving all the pictures of our students coming in! Our WA family will hopefully be able to rejoin together under one roof soon, but until then, we are committed to continuing our education of your children with the same level of high-quality curriculum, care, and dedication.
Please continue to send us your pictures for our weekly Coordinates !
Spirit Day was so fun! Thank you to all those who sent in their NorthStar gear!
We were sad to hear that the "stay home" order has been extended until at least May 4th, but some of our teachers delivered the next three weeks of curriculum to their students, and said, "Hello!" from a safe distance.
The Elementary Yearbook is coming along purr-fectly thanks to Mrs. Hameed and her feline assistant!
Mrs. Chiccarelli's Second Graders have been learning about the circulatory system. During a Google Meet, they made a model of blood using water for plasma, marshmallows for white blood cells, and Cheerios for red blood cells.
We are loving our Remote Afterschool Program for K-8! The dedicated Afterschool Team has enjoyed connecting with our students with daily Google Meets for each grade level! Here’s a "behind the scenes" look at Mr. Michael doing his Campfire Story with all his Google Meet friends, complete with faux fire! Check out his friends from "Lego My Eggo" and his "thumbs up" he received from his workout buddies!
Miss Jada and Miss Emily are still getting to enjoy their coloring and conversations with our Kindergarten students, and Miss Courtney has been teaching how to make slime!
Miss Adrienne's Afterschool sessions enjoyed some charades, anime discussions, and her "Coloration" drawing class, where she teaches step-by-step how to draw many different types of pictures that include animals to their favorite characters.
The Mrs. St. Lawrence's Fifth Graders created these Soil Conservation Method Posters as part of their Science Class!
Mrs. Collins has been able to still teach piano to students from afar! Here she is with Matty in Grade 5 Rhythm Writing!
Don't forget to sign up for a one-on-one meet with your child's ECE teachers! The teachers have been loving being able to personally connect with their students and families to offer support, ideas, and just getting to see everyone!
Miss Bishop's students got comfy at home and she read aloud to them from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, just like old times!
Mrs. Iannone's students have continued to create beautiful artwork!
We love being able to see students using the Google Meet sessions and in pictures of them completing their projects and schoolwork. Keep up the great jobs, everyone!
We are in this together…
Try to have a safe ‘socially distanced” weekend!
