PTA MEMBERSHIP FEE AND "PASS THE HAT"
What is this all about?

When you complete your First Day Packet you will have the opportunities to purchase a PTA Membership and to donate to our annual fundraiser called Pass The Hat. What's the difference between the two?

What is a PTA membership?
Your membership fee supports the work PTA does, not only at our school but also at our local council, state level, and national PTA levels.

From WA State PTA's site: "With more than 133,000 members, Washington State PTA is the largest volunteer association dedicated to the education, health, welfare, and safety of all children in Washington state. When you join PTA, you support local, state and national efforts to improve the lives of children and their families. A WSPTA membership card is valuable! Benefits include local and statewide discounts, advocacy, scholarships, programs, volunteer support, services to local PTAs and councils, and training for PTA leaders."

When you join via Rockwell, you have a voice and vote at our meetings, plus our PTA provides paid members with access to our online directory and a paper directory and you'll have access to the local WA State discount benefits (Great Wolf Lodge, WA State Fair, FedEx Office and more) are listed here.

What is the Pass The Hat Fundraiser at Rockwell?
Pass the Hat is Rockwell's one big PTA fundraiser for the year. Instead of asking parents and students to buy or sell cookie dough or magazines, we ask you to simply donate directly to our PTA. Your donation helps to fund the 40+ programs the PTA sponsors throughout the year. Your donations to the PTA are crucial to the academic enrichment of our student population.
The PTA is 100% funded by parents' donations and matching corporate donations.

Norman Rockwell PTA is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, so your donations are
tax-deductible. If your employer has corporate matching, please be sure to select Rockwell PTA and double your donation!

What Does My Donation Pay For?  PTA Community Events (dance, movie nights etc), learning enrichment at assemblies, author visits, art-docent supplies, Salmon in the Classroom, Grade-level and school enrichment grants, Science Van, STEM classroom visits from The Toymaker & Bug Safari and much more. We also pay for hosting of the Bugle and PTA website and parent programs!
ONLINE AND PAPER DIRECTORY INFORMATION

Rockwell PTA provides two different directories as a benefit to those who support PTA by purchasing a PTA membership. Please read about the directories and how your paid membership gets you these great benefits!

Online PTA Membership Directory: Only Members of our website who have paid for a PTA membership will have private access to our website directory. You can control what information others can see about you and your student.  We have given all website members access to the on-line PTA membership directory through the first week of school so that you can give it a free trial run.  Go ahead and customize which fields from your profile can be seen by others.  At the end of the first week, only those with a paid PTA Membership will have continuing access.

Paper Student Directory: The paper Student Directory is a listing of all students at Rockwell.  In addition to the listing of students, the paper Student Directory includes sections on Important School Contacts, Rockwell Policies and Procedures and PTA Programs. The listing of students is presented by classroom with parent email and phone numbers only.  The Student Directory is published once a year in October and distributed as a benefit to paid PTA members and also to those people who purchase a copy of the paper Student Directory only. You must OPT IN to be included in the paper Student Directory.  The OPT IN/Permissions Form were provided to you at Dog Day. We will provide one to anyone who missed Dog Day and they must be handed back in with Your Student's Name, Your Teacher's Name, Three Checked Boxes and Your Signature.

OPT IN/Permissions Form at Dog Day
The OPT IN/Permissions form is required for any student who wants to be included in the Student Directory, the Yearbook or any PTA program.  Parents have the choice to check "Yes, please include my student" or "No, do not include my student".  Parents will be checking Yes or No three times; once for the Student Directory, once for the Yearbook and once for all other PTA programs.  We will continue contacting you through "Kid Mail" until we have a completed OPT IN/Permissions form for each student at Rockwell.

Read More about our Directories here.
