August 25, 2020

Good morning,

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year. It has been a busy and productive summer as we tackled hurdles on seemingly a daily basis. We will welcome the Class of 2024 to St. Vincent-St. Mary High School on Wednesday, with the remainder of the student body returning on Thursday. We have made significant changes to our daily routine, but we are ready to welcome the students back to school. There are many important pieces of information included with this email, so please review them all closely.
Welcome Video
Attached is a video created by our student House Leadership team introducing you to some of the changes in procedure that have been made to ensure the safety of all students returning to the building. Please review these with your student prior to the first day of school.
Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up & Student Parking
Also included with this email is information pertaining to the redesign of the student parking lot and drop off procedures.

AM Drop-Off
For optimal safety, please drop-off students adjacent to the curb and do not pass vehicles in the drop off-line. All students being dropped off in the morning MUST be dropped off in the student parking lot. Students will not be permitted to enter any door on Maple Street. As you will notice in the picture below, the student parking lot has been redesigned to allow for drop off traffic and student drivers. Vehicles entering the student parking lot to drop their student off are asked to turn immediately right into the “student drop-off lane” to drop their child off near the NEW Student Entrance (door #6).There is a new pedestrian walkway where students can walk in towards the school to avoid traffic and remain safe.

PM Pick-Up
At dismissal, student pick-up may take place in one of two spots:
1) In the student parking lot where AM drop-offs take place, or
2) In the upper parking lot across Maple St.

If you choose to pick-up students in the lower student parking lot, we ask that you avoid the student reserved spaces and wait for your student in the gravel parking lot closest to the stadium.

If you would like to pick your student up in the front of the school, please use the new parking lot across from the LeBron James Arena (Door #12). Pull into the parking lot and remain in a parking space until your student is in the vehicle.

All students are asked to log into the Portal to access their schedule. On Thursday, all students will begin the day with Period 1 (Block 1). Students entering the building before 7:45 am are to make their way to the LeBron James Arena and be seated on one of the socially distanced blue marks. Students arriving after 7:45 am are to report directly to their first period class. On Thursday and Friday we will follow the modified schedule shown here:

All e-Learners should log into their first period class by 8:00 am on Thursday. Please check your @stvm.student.com email for directions from your teacher.
Students will eat lunch at the end of their third period class on Thursday only. Beginning on Friday, students will eat with their mentor groups. If your student did not preorder a boxed lunch, they should pack a lunch.

Unfortunately at this time, microwaves will not be available for students to heat a meal. Thermoses are recommended for students wishing to bring hot lunch items. Box lunches are available through pre-order only. The order forms will be sent to student email accounts one week in advance at a cost of $2.50. These lunches include a sandwich, bottled water, whole fruit, chips, cookies, condiment packets and a moist towelette. Box lunches will be delivered directly to each student’s mentor group in time for the time period.
e-Learning Students
Textbook pickup continues today from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. All textbooks are located in the Haag Student Center with the student’s name. Please enter through the main office doors, collect materials, and exit out the arena doors. Remember to wear a mask at all times in the building. All e-Learning students were sent an orientation video and important information last week. Please contact your student’s school counselor if you did not receive these materials.
Please refer to the STVM website to review the Return to School Document for any other questions you may have regarding the start of the 2020-21 school year.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have as we embark on this memorable year.
