Return to In-Person Services

Dor Hadash is fortunate to have as members a group of dedicated and accomplished health professionals some of whom served on our Covid Committee. This past Sunday, the Board voted to accept the recommendations of the Covid Committee and resume in-person services for Dor Hadash at the Rodef Shalom synagogue. We will be excited to see you! Click here to view the complete recommendation. We understand that the situation related to Covid remains fluid and the Congregation will periodically review these recommendations as circumstances warrant.

To start, the recommendations provide a conservative approach to resuming in-person services. Attendance will be divided into three groups. Those that are vaccinated need not socially distance but must be masked. Those who, for some reason, require social distancing will be masked in a socially distanced section. Vaccinated congregants are also welcome to sit in this section. Finally families with school age children can pod together but will also need to be masked and social distanced from other pods. Members who come to the Bimah must be vaccinated but do not need to be masked. Singing will be allowed and encouraged.

To make sure the space provided is adequate, a preregistration process will be implemented. Also, per Rodef practices and policies, all attendees must sign in when entering the building – to help with contact tracing should this become necessary.

Please remember that all in-person services will also be available remotely via Zoom. If you have any questions regarding the in-person attendance recommendations, please contact Rich Weinberg, Chair of the Covid Committee, at [email protected].

Come Meet Rabbi Evette Lutman This Weekend!

The Board’s approval of the Congregation’s in person services could not come at a better time. Rabbi Evette, the candidate identified by the Spiritual Guidance Search Committee for our congregation, will be visiting us in-person this weekend (July 16 -18). While we had an opportunity to meet Rabbi Evette over Zoom recently, one can obviously make a better judgment about a person with an in-person meeting. I strongly encourage you to make every effort to attend an event with Rabbi Evette. The schedule is set forth below. Please attend or tune in on Zoom to as many events as you are able. Click here to pre-register for each event.

Finally, please note that the Search Committee and several others have reached out to Rabbi Evette’s former congregation. The Board members and congregants have decided to go in another direction and no longer want a Rabbi. That said they universally admired Rabbi Evette and were highly complimentary of her teaching ability, her ability to engage in social action, her ability to bridge differences in the congregation and her knowledge and teaching of Judaism. Again, please make every effort to meet Rabbi Evette in person and be sure to complete the survey that will be sent to you shortly after the visit.

L’shalom,
Bruce
About Rabbi Evette
Rabbi Evette Lutman (she/her) is excited to be joining us via Zoom from Denver, Colorado. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Ohio University, and a juris doctorate from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. After graduation from law school, she represented battered women in various settings, eventually serving for ten years as a Referee for the Washtenaw County Friend of the Court in Ann Arbor, Michigan, helping to settle custody, visitation and child support disputes.

In preparation for going into the rabbinate, Rabbi Evette worked at her Reform congregation in Ann Arbor, as the assistant religious school administrator. She also served for two years as the lay-leader for a Reform synagogue in Jackson, Michigan.

Rabbi Evette moved to Jerusalem to sharpen her Hebrew skills, and attend yeshiva at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies. She is passionate about Israel and urges people to visit and stay engaged. She encourages open dialogue about Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She is also passionate about social justice and tikkun olam – and challenges congregants to be an ongoing part of the repair of our world through personal involvement and public advocacy.

After two years in Israel, Rabbi Evette returned to the United States to attend the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia, where she met her wife Shari Abramowitz. Upon graduation, the couple moved to Denver, Colorado, where Rabbi Evette has served as the spiritual leader of B'nai Havurah, Denver Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation.

During this weekend with Dor Hadash, the rabbi will share her love for Jewish texts, history, prayer and music, infusing our time together with Reconstructionist values and joy for Jewish learning. She says she can’t wait to meet you!
