AHS alums and parents join forces to bring more improvements to the courtyard!
Mr. Fellows and the PTO wanted to bring art and color into a formerly uninspiring area of our courtyard and felt it made sense to highlight the primary ways our students interact with AHS - academics, arts and athletics. We were honored to work with Anderson alumni, and amazing local artist, Jenny (Roesel) Ustick (class of '95) who donated much of her time and considerable talent to bring this idea to life by creating an amazing mural on the wall in the student lunch area.

We went through several design iterations with input from students, teachers and parents. While we definitely learned that nobody sees art the same way, we were so pleased to hear the comment of the first student we asked for feedback. Her immediate response was, "I really like how it represents all of us." Mission accomplished! We've heard great comments from the kids since the start of school and are so glad to have had the chance to improve a little corner of Anderson that wasn't being touched by the construction.
Another really rewarding piece of this project ended up being the camaraderie that developed between so many parents, alumni and friends as we spent time "on the wall." This was a massive undertaking and it simply couldn't have been done without so many people being willing to give so much of their time to create something special for Anderson and the kids. There are at least 10 more contributors (including several alumni like Jenny's awesome mom Debbie Roesel (68)) and we will update their names in a subsequent newsletter along with an artist's statement about the piece. We do want to go ahead and recognize our amazing parent/student contributors that played a pivotal role in completing the project: Lisa (Cogliano) Courtney (94), Tim Courtney (92), Christy (Klekamp) Cron (91), Doug Cron, Susan Declercq, Filiep Declercq, Terri Eliff, Jill Galanty Gallagher, Jenny (Minning) Gavin ('90), Kate Gearding, Angela Laake, Abigail Laake, Amy Rile, James Rile, Robin Rothfuss, Karl Rothfuss (88), Kate Rothfuss, Jason Stockslager, Courtney Tanner and Ly
dia Tanner
.
One more alum parent shared his talents and got in on the project in a really cool way. Ryan Hensley created this video from drone footage as the last touches were happening.

The courtyard improvements didn't stop with the mural! To help the PTO stretch its budget, an anonymous alumni shed lots of sweat over several days digging massive holes and installing six 13' arborvitae along the north wall of the courtyard. Last year's plantings are doing well and the courtyard is starting to take shape!

Please Become a Member of Anderson's PTO!!!
In addition to our regular programming and thanks to membership dollars, the PTO was also able to provide mini grants for books, support a guest composer initiative and fund a starter grant for establishing a robust robotics program. Anderson has a strong tradition of parents and staff supporting the school through membership in the PTO. We hope you will support us so we can continue to do good things for Anderson's kids! Our online form is fast, secure and might just make you feel like a superhero!
Don't worry - joining doesn't mean that you will be baking cookies 24/7 or will have to attend meetings! While we hope that you will find ways to share your talents with AHS, your membership simply entitles you to a student directory and the satisfaction of knowing you are covering the costs of the programming that enriches your student's experience throughout AHS. Your membership is critical and we thank you!

Homecoming Volunteers
- September 28th
The teachers always lead the charge to plan a great Homecoming Dance for the students! They need a few parents to assist with manning the refreshment table. This is always a fun night (and you aren't in your kid's "space" at all) so please share a few hours if you can!
Staff Appreciation - Snack Sign Up!
Anderson’s teachers and staff are second to none. They are immersed in creating the best high school experience for our students not only in the classroom but also in their extracurricular activities, service events and dances.
In addition to providing teachers a quick bite to eat before conferences, we were able to show the staff our appreciation last year by providing a monthly treat and a few gift card drawings thanks to
your
generosity! This was a HUGE hit with the teachers and the small gesture really made them feel noticed and appreciated. Please use the attached sign up to volunteer to bring some snacks throughout the year! Providing an unexpected treat will brighten their day (and yours)! Thank you!

E-Z Rent-ALL is an
AMAZING
Community Partner
Even though Chris graduated from the "other" high school, he was a major supporter of our mural project. They generously donated scaffolding for a month and also gave us an air sprayer (again, free of charge) to assist with priming the wall. Without these two contributions the project would have been both financially and practically unfeasible.
Please thank them for supporting Anderson whenever you are renting equipment!
