ES/MS Open House/Supply Drop-Off
Wednesday, August 19, 1-3 PM
|
|
On Wednesday, August 19 from 1-3 PM, students may come to the school and drop off supplies. Links to the SignUpGenius for the elementary and middle schools are below. The staggered times will help us comply with social distancing recommendations. Everyone (except students 3rd grade and younger and individuals with health exceptions) will be asked to wear a face covering, answer health screening questions, and have their temperatures taken before entering the buildings.
In the elementary school, students can go to their classrooms and peek inside the door while handing their supplies to their teachers. We are not allowing entry into the classrooms to minimize the teachers' cleaning efforts before the busy first day of school.
In the middle school, students will receive their locker assignments and schedules. They may take their supplies directly to their lockers.

If you indicated in the electronic Summer Packet that you will need Before and/or After-School Care, registration forms are due. Please complete and return the form below to Jill Bussiere as soon as possible. Openings are very limited.

Parents and Guadians,
Because of COVID, we are going to begin the school year with staggered arrival and dismissal times. Please use the sign up below to choose your schedule which will be used daily.
|
|
The Summer Forms were due on August 12. This includes registration for before/after-school care, after-school art, ES chorus workshop, field trip permission slip, honor and polo shirts, etc. If you have not filled out this form, please do so.

- Visitors
- Due to COVID restrictions, only staff and students will be allowed to enter the school buildings. Exceptions will be made as necessary, on a case-by-case basis.
- Sick Students
- Any student with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be isolated until parents can arrive to pick them up.
- Lunch
- Students will be eating in their classrooms. Hot lunches will not be offered this year, but we will offer pizza on Fridays starting in October.
- Water
- Please be sure that students bring their own water bottles to school daily as water fountains will not be functioning.
- Masks
- Students in 4th-8th grade are required to wear masks at any time in which they aren't able to socially distance (during arrival, unpacking, in the hallway, etc.).
- Early Pickup
- If you need to pick up your student early from school, please call the office when you have arrived. We will have your student pack up their items, and we will bring him or her to the door.

We trust your family will be able to participate in Parents' Night, whether in person or virtually. This important event affords an opportunity to be updated about the HS program, as well as to meet your student's teachers in their classrooms.
This is scheduled for Friday, August 20, beginning at 7:00 PM and ending before 8:45 PM.
Since some families would prefer to not participate in person and we need to limit attendee numbers, we are providing a virtual participation option.
Whether you prefer to participate in person or virtually, we do need an RSVP from you.
|
|
Rather than waiting until the morning of the first day of school to get situated, come by the day before (Wednesday, August 19) for Open House. This will be a good time to locate and set up your locker, obtain your class schedule and other information, as well as see some of your GCS friends (in a physically-distanced-appropriate manner). See the schedule below.

The Great Escape
On Thursday, August 27, the HS will enjoy a day of spiritual encouragement, inter-grade interaction, and just plain fun.
- We are grateful to Church on the Hill for allowing us to host this event at their facility (100 Foursquare Lane, Fishersville, 22939).
- A morning snack, lunch, and dinner will be provided.
- Relaxed dress code (modesty & appropriateness are still important)
- A non-digital Bible and note-taking supplies should be brought.
-
While we will be taking COVID-19 precautions (more details to follow), and though much of the day will be spent outside, we do understand that some families may decide to not have their student participate in this year’s event. We only ask that the parent(s) send a written note or email directly to Mr. Kerr before August 25.
Senior Retreat
Under the leadership of Dr. Larson and Brian Fitzgerald, the Class of 2021 will spend a day together being challenged by Scripture, working through team-building activities, and enjoying the outdoors and fellowship with one another. Please look for more details about this event scheduled for Monday, August 24, at Camp Shenandoah.
