Important Reminders and Dates for the Start of School

SPN Health and Safety

While COVID cases have decreased in numbers, it is still a very real health concern for our school community. We will continue with the Daily Health Screening questionnaire (click link) to ensure that students and adults on campus are not ill or possibly contagious. We still need you to notify us (Ms. Thomas, juthomas@csdo.org and Ms. Andie apeto@csdo.org) of a positive case of COVID so we can follow the same protocols we did last year in notifying affected individuals/groups, masking if necessary, and testing to return to school. If your student has been exposed to a positive case of COVID outside of school, please inform us and be aware that wearing a mask at school for the first 5 days after an exposure is our protocol. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Thomas or Ms. Andie. Thank you.

The following is part of our SPN Health and Safety Plan 2023-24 located in the Parent Student Handbook for your reference.

Daily Health Screening:

  • All students, faculty and staff must be screened PRIOR to arriving at school. SPN provides the following Daily Health Screening questionnaire and guidelines to assist you.
  • Students or staff who are exhibiting cold/flu symptoms are not to come to school. If they begin exhibiting symptoms after arriving at school, the individual will be separated from others in an isolation area and arrangements made for the individual to go home as soon as possible.
  • Staff and students who are sick are required to stay home.

Share and Care

Hello my wonderful Share and Care families!

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer!

I'm sending this notice as a reminder that only families who have submitted a completed registration form for Share and Care are able to use the program. Every family needs to fill out a new registration form every single school year. I am only able to process registration forms while I'm at work in the mornings. If you plan to use Share and Care on the first day of school, Monday 8/21, the form needs to be submitted no later than 9:30am on MondayForms submitted AFTER 9:30am on Monday, will allow your child to attend Share and Care beginning on Tuesday 8/22. If you submit a form after 9:30am on Tuesday, Share and Care will not be available to you until Wednesday 8/23.  If you are not registered by 9:30am on the morning that you intend to use Share and Care, you or somebody from your emergency contact list will be called to pick up your child(ren).

As of this email, 21 families have submitted a completed registration form.

I'm attaching the form for you to fill out and submit to me as well as the fee sheet for those of you who would like to sign up for a monthly contract.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions! Please understand that an email confirmation does not ensure you a spot in Share and Care unless it has a completed registration form attached.

All my best,

Mariem Ouerfelli Lambert

Director of Extended Care

Community Service Announcement

Ms. Smeal would like to share the following announcement from the City of Alameda with families who ride their bicycles to school from Bay Farm Island.

Bay Farm Island Bike/Walk Path to Close

Two segments of the waterfront trail (aka Shoreline Park) leading up to the Bay Farm Island bike bridge will close back-to-back from August 15-September 8 while the City widens and repaves the trail, eliminating hazardous conditions and creating a smooth walking and riding surface.

Many young people use these trails as they travel to and from school. Marked detours are in place:

  • Phase 1 “U” Detour: Sheffield to Puddingstone to Robert Davey Jr. to Packet Landing OR Island Dr/Veterans Ct
  • Phase 2 “U” Detour: Sheffield to Puddingstone to Robert Davey Jr. to Island Dr/Veterans Ct

Please use extra caution in the area. During both phases, avoid using the sidewalk on the north side of Robert Davey Jr., from Puddingstone to Packet Landing, since the EBMUD project at the Packet Landing corner has closed this crosswalk. We are working hard to finish the work quickly and will open the improved trail sooner if possible. Check out the bikeway facilities for planning your alternate route at bikewalkalameda.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/AlamedaBikeMap-2.pdf.

After this project is complete, we’ll be repairing other trail segments on Bay Farm! In the meantime, please report service requests to seeclickfix.com/us-ca-alameda/report. See City alerts and advisories at www.alamedaca.gov/alerts.

Paint the Benches with the Scouts

Attention Families with Children Ages 5-17!

You are invited to join Scouts BSA Troop 78 and Pack 78 for a Day in Service at St. Philip Neri School. The event will be on Saturday, August 26th from 9am to 3pm. (No need to attend for the entire time.)

We will be repainting the benches on the school playground and could use your help. This is also a great opportunity to learn about what Scouting at SPN has to offer for your child.

Please sign up for a slot at this Sign Up Link or use the QR Code below so we can be prepared with plenty of snacks and water. We look forward to seeing you there.

If you have any questions or need help signing up, please send an email to twilhelm@gmail.com
