Welcome Back to School!

Dear Reid Temple Christian Academy Families,

Where has the summer gone? It is hard to believe it is the end of August and we are approaching the start of a new school year. A new school year that will be significantly different with new leadership, programs, and teachers that are focused on our amazing scholars' academic success! Additionally, the start of a new school year always brings a mix of emotions to our scholars. For some, there is enthusiasm and excitement while others may experience apprehension and concern. This is normal and to be expected. As we continue to emerge from this endless pandemic, it is important that we work together to make this new school year a great one. Two key components of our efforts at Reid Temple Christian Academy are to build strong partnerships with our families and provide frequent communication. I would like to share important updates and announcements.

PARENT-STUDENT HANDBOOK

To further build the community we all desire, the school has updated our comprehensive Parent-Student Handbook which will be shared with all of our families. Every parent should take the time to familiarize themselves with the school’s policies and procedures. Knowing the school’s expectations for parents and students will help eliminate any future misunderstandings or concerns. As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support.

SCHOOL CALENDAR

The Academic Calendar for the year has also been updated for the 2023-2024 school year. Please note that parents will be notified of any changes as soon as they are made. Our families can access the Academic Calendar on our website and here: 2023-2024 Academic Calendar

UPDATED LATE ARRIVAL POLICY

In carline one and two, our staff will receive students from 8:00 am to 8:15 am daily. Any student that arrives after 8:15 am will be considered late and is unable to enter the Academy until the designated late arrival pick up times. Parents who arrive after 8:15 am must park their vehicle in the parking lot on the side of the Academy. Once parked, please escort your child to the Academy door and a RTCA or RELC staff member will come down to escort your child at the following late arrival pick up times:

8:20 am, 8:45 am and 9:05 am

No student will be picked up after 9:05 am unless the parent notified the main office in advance. Please note that each tardy will be unexcused if it is not accompanied by a doctor’s note. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.

DRESS CODE

We are excited to see our scholars on Monday, August 28, 2023! We expect all students, in grades PK2 - 8, to be in full uniform. Information regarding the Dress Code is found on our website, as well as here: Uniform Dress Code

NEW LUNCH VENDOR

We would like to announce that we have a new lunch caterer for the 2023-2024 school year. The RTCA Board of Directors have selected Tastee LLC to serve our Pre-K2 – 8th grade scholars. Mrs. Amelia John-Lewis and her team are excited to join the RTCA community. They are hard at work creating a customized menu which features nourishing meals cooked fresh and on site in our kitchen. We will always provide the lunch menu so our parents are aware of the daily food selections. Additionally, if your child has any food allergies, please submit this important information to the main office or email it to Ms. Tiana Farmer at tfarmer@reidtempleacademy.com.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS

On Monday, August 28, 2023, all scholars will arrive in carline 1 and 2 between 8:00 am and 8:15 am. Our staff will greet your scholar and escort them into the Academy. This week, we will have Chapel on Monday and Wednesday as a school community. On Friday, September 1, 2023, we welcome all parents to attend Chapel with our Reid Temple Christian Academy staff and scholars. We look forward to seeing you!

COVID UPDATE

There has been an increase in the number of COVID cases this summer. The most recent guidance from the Maryland Department of Health and CDC requires that a student or staff member who has contracted the virus must quarantine for five days. If, on the sixth day, the individual is fever free and NOT on a fever reducing medication, he or she may return to school but must wear a mask for five days. We will begin the school year as mask optional. We will closely monitor any updates from the Maryland Department of Health and CDC as we progress throughout the school year. I will notify all parents with pertinent information should we have to shift to a mandatory mask requirement.

I look forward to seeing and hearing our enthusiastic scholars engaging in their classrooms, competing on the athletic fields, worshipping God during Chapel, and performing in plays and musical concerts. I want to hear the hallways and lunchrooms filled with energy and enthusiasm. I also anticipate enjoying the quiet moments when deep thought and reflection takes place as scholars try to “figure things out.” This is what makes Reid Temple Christian Academy so special. I look forward to meeting you and your children on Monday. May God bless you always!

Blessings in Christ,

Mrs. Michelle Taylor
