Welcome back to the Board, Dianne McKenna
|
Dianne served on the Sunnyvale City Council from 1977 until 1984 and served two terms as Mayor of Sunnyvale. In 1984, she was elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. She retired from public office in January 1997.
"Almost 25% of our county's population is under 18 years of age, but the younger generation is 100% of our future. I continue to stay active on the Silicon Valley Children's Fund Board because we have the opportunity to impact the lives of young people and improve their future and our future as well."
Dianne served on the California Transportation Commission from November 2000 until 2005. She also served on two nonprofit boards: the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), and the San Jose State University's Library Council. In 2001, Joint Venture Silicon Valley asked Dianne McKenna, and former San Jose Mercury Publisher, Jay Harris to co-chair its effort to develop a 20 year vision for Silicon Valley. Dianne was Chair of the Foothill De Anza Foundation Board from 2009 until 2011. Currently, she co-chairs the Citizens' Advisory Committee for the Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space District's Future Vision Project.

Santa Clara County Opportunity Youth Partnership
|

In July of this year, Kids in Common was selected as the backbone organization by the Aspen Institute's Forum for Community Solutions for a one year planning grant to better connect resources for Santa Clara County's opportunity youth (ages 16-24) who are not engaged in school or work. As a community, Santa Clara County is well positioned to strengthen the network of organizations serving opportunity youth. During this planning period, the Opportunity Youth Partnership (OYP) will work to identify and build effective pathways to reconnect youth to education and workforce systems, use data to guide decisions, leverage resources to support and sustain implementation, and identify key policy gaps. SVCF is actively participating in this initiative. Elise Cutini, our Executive Director, is co-chairing the Pathway Development workgroup and serving on the Leadership Council while our staff, Marie-Christine Busque, Sherri Brooks and Ashley Matysiak are serving on the Policy, Pathway Development and Data workgroups. The planning period has just begun and we are excited to announce our first workgroup meetings focusing on data (October 15, 10:30am-12pm) and pathway development (October 25, 3:30-5pm). If you are interested in learning more about these meetings, have questions about the Opportunity Youth Partnership, or would like to receive regular updates, please contact Katrina Slater at kslater@kidsincommon.org or 408-795-3768.
