TRUSTED RESOURCES

for PARENTS

A new school year brings new routines, experiences, and opportunities to connect. When it comes to preventing substance and drug use, everyday conversations and support can help young people feel connected, make healthy choices, and stay on track.

Start the Conversation

  • Talk often: Ask about school, friends, stress, and what's going on in their lives.
  • Set clear expectations: Be clear about your family's rules around alcohol, vaping, and other substances.
  • Practice saying no: Talk about what they can say or do if someone offers them a substance.
  • Listen: Let your child know they can come to you without fear of judgment.
  • Keep checking in: Small conversations can make a big impact.
