Pastor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

How do you face adversity? Those moments find every one of us.

Sometimes it is a brief encounter and at other times, adversity stays for a season. Often we feel tested, sometimes to the very limit of our being. It is so often in our times of hardship that we search more eagerly for God’s help and presence, especially when we feel that we have completely run out of our own strength. I certainly have had times that drove me to my knees in prayer, trying to understand what God wants me to do and feeling that my own resources have run out.

As we continue to follow the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul we find he runs into adverse situations, where preaching the gospel and starting new churches creates a reaction of hostility that leaves him under attack, in jail, or perhaps wondering about pursuing God’s purpose or giving up. Paul reached the point where he understood that persecution was going to be a common reaction to the message...

Donate NOW to Youth Auction
On March 25, the youth will hold their Youth Mission Dinner and Auction, a yearly fundraising event, and they need your help to make it a success. The youth are soliciting donations of gift cards, travel packages, themed baskets from ministry teams, tickets to sporting events or concerts/plays and more for their silent and live auction. Donation letters and forms are available in the office and on the website.

Prayer Chapel, Sunday Lenten Experiences and Worship at PVUMC
Paradise Valley United Methodist Church (PVUMC) invites you to experience Lent every day during this six-week season.

One way is through the practice of prayer. The campus has two rooms designed for this purpose, along with the worship spaces, the chapel and sanctuary. Under the chapel, there's a 24-hour prayer room and in the H Building, there's a meditation room, H6. Feel free to use these rooms for prayer if they are open and not reserved for a meeting.

The Learning and Living Ministry Team also offers several Sunday morning experiences on the patio after worship. This Sunday, March 4, look for a table with candles. You're invited to light a candle and say a prayer.

The team will also have a table with nametags. Please wear a nametag so the communion servers can call you by name as you partake of the Lord's Supper during worship.

The Prayers of Intercession are included in the Looking Ahead. Unless otherwise requested, prayer requests are e-mailed to the 200+ Prayer Team members and shared with pastors and staff. Submit a prayer request using our online request form or call the church office at 602.840.8360.

Worship Bulletins are available for the 8 am and 9:30 am worship services on Sunday.
Ignite at 11 am is an alternative, contemporary and bulletin-free service in the chapel.

This Sunday, we have a special offering designated to UMCOR. Look for the blue and white envelope in the Bulletin or Looking Ahead. The UMC has designated March 11 as UMCOR Sunday or One Great Hour of Sharing, but PVUMC takes this offering on March 4 this year. Read More.
Inclusion and Exclusion in the Bible Workshop - March 3, 2018
Just as we celebrate an Open Table, where all are welcome to participate in the Lords's Supper, we also seek to be more inclusive as a congregation. The Rev. Dr. Kah-Jin Jeffrey Kuan, president of Claremont School of Theology, will lead a Workshop on Inclusion and Exclusion in the Bible , Saturday, March 3 , 10 am-12 noon in Room H1. He preaches on Sunday at all three services on "Facing Adversity." His visit is sponsored by the Diversity (All-Embracing) Ministry Team.
First Sunday of the Month
Every First Sunday of the Month at PVUMC, you're encouraged to donate non-perishable food to UMOM. Look for the blue bins as you enter the campus. The Missions Ministry Team also sponsors a dinner service at the Halle Women's Center and at UMOM New Day Centers a few times each month. Look for tables on the patio to sign up to serve families who are experiencing homelessness. One of the Journeys groups, Susanna Circle, also has a purse drive from now until May 6. Purses and toiletries will be donated to women at UMOM in time for Mother's Day.

The Good Life at PVUMC
