We are excited to welcome Gavin Smith back to the Huntingdon County Chamber of Commerce for his second summer internship!
Gavin has proven to be an incredible asset to our team. His positive attitude, strong work ethic, willingness to jump in wherever needed, and dedication to serving our members have made a lasting impact on our organization. Whether he's helping behind the scenes at events, assisting with projects, or representing the Chamber in the community, Gavin consistently goes above and beyond.
As an upcoming senior at Juniata Valley High School, multi-sport athlete, National Honor Society member, and CHAMP Captain, Gavin brings enthusiasm, leadership, and fresh ideas to everything he does. We are grateful for the time and talent he shares with us and look forward to another productive and exciting summer together.
Please join us in giving Gavin a warm welcome back! We can't wait to see all he accomplishes this summer.

Recently, our President/CEO completed her third year of Institute for Organization Management (IOM) training in Madison, Wisconsin. This nationally recognized professional development program brings together chamber and association professionals from across the country to learn, collaborate, and grow as leaders.
While the classroom sessions were filled with valuable insights, innovative ideas, and practical strategies that can be brought back to benefit our organization and community, one of the greatest rewards of IOM is the relationships formed along the way. Each year creates opportunities to connect with professionals from diverse backgrounds, and those connections often grow into lifelong friendships and a trusted network of colleagues who continue to support one another long after the program ends.
Of course, no trip to Wisconsin would be complete without experiencing one of the state's most famous treats—cheese curds! Between the learning, networking, and a little local flavor, it was an unforgettable week.
We are proud to support continuing education and leadership development opportunities that strengthen our organization and help us better serve our members and community. The knowledge, inspiration, and connections gained through IOM will continue to make a positive impact here at home for years to come.

Building a One-Page Benefit Piece Employees Will Actually Read
Employee benefits are only valuable if employees understand them. Yet many organizations rely on long, tedious guides, dense PDFs, or put the information on portals employees rarely open. A well-designed benefits one pager solves this problem by reducing what matters most into a clear, visual, and actionable summary.
The goal of a one-pager is not to explain everything…it’s to spark understanding and engagement. Business leaders can start by answering three questions employees care about most: What do I get? Why does it matter to me? How do I use it? If the one pager doesn’t clearly answer those questions, it’s not doing the job.
Effective one-pagers focus on prioritization, not completeness. Highlight 5-7 core benefits that drive the most value, such as health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and key voluntary benefits. Use plain language, not insurance jargon. For example, “help paying medical bills” is more effective than “high-deductible health plan.”
Design matters just as much as content. Using icons, short headings, and white space helps to guide the eye. Break information into sections like Health, Well-Being, Financial, and Extras. Keep sentences short and scannable. If it takes more than 60 seconds to read, it’s too long.
Finally, include a clear call to action. Tell employees exactly where to go next…a benefits portal, HR contact, or enrollment deadline. A QR code or short link works well.
A strong benefits one-pager becomes a versatile tool: it can support onboarding, open enrollment, recruiting, and leadership communication. Most importantly, it respects employees’ time, and that alone increases the likelihood they’ll actually use the benefits being offered.
The Huntingdon County Chamber of Commerce offers its members access to My Benefit Advisor as a solution for employee benefits, including voluntary offerings. For more information about My Benefit Advisor, visit our website at hccc.mybenefitadvisor.com or contact Craig Pritts at (800) 377-3539.

Celebrate Huntingdon County Night at PNG Field!
Join us on Saturday, August 15 at 6:00 PM as the Altoona Curve take on the Akron RubberDucks during a special Huntingdon County Community Night benefiting the Huntingdon County United Way! This exciting evening will bring our community together for baseball, fireworks, and a chance to showcase the pride and spirit of Huntingdon County.
We know it’s also the final evening of the Huntingdon County Fair, but we hope families, friends, neighbors, and co-workers will still be able to make the trip to PNG Field to enjoy a fun summer night together while supporting a great cause. Whether you attend with your business team, your family, or a group of friends, this is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our county and give back to the United Way programs that make a difference throughout our communities.
Businesses and individuals alike are encouraged to support the event through sponsorships or ticket purchases. Every donation helps strengthen local programs and services that benefit Huntingdon County residents year-round.
Let’s pack the stands, celebrate Huntingdon County, and make it a night to remember!

We are gearing up for the 2026 Golf Tournament on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, and we’re inviting our members to help make the event even more memorable for our golfers.
We are currently seeking promotional swag items, giveaways, coupons, gift certificates, and branded merchandise to include in our golfer gift bags. This is a great opportunity to showcase your business directly to tournament participants while supporting one of our community’s premier networking events.
We will need 84 items to ensure every golfer receives a gift bag item.
Popular swag ideas include:
- Pens, koozies, tumblers, towels, or golf accessories
- Coupons or promotional vouchers
- Gift cards or certificates
- Snacks, beverages, or small branded items
- Company promotional materials or giveaways
If donating enough items for every golfer isn’t possible, businesses are also welcome to contribute a door prize item instead. Door prizes are a great way to gain visibility during the tournament while helping add excitement to the event.

Did you know........
Small businesses represent the largest segment by number of most local chamber membership rolls. Results in the research study by The Shapiro Group, Inc. and Market Street indicate the impact of local chamber membership on small businesses is very powerful. If a consumer knows a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business enjoys a 44 percent increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 51 percent increase in consumer awareness, a 57 percent increase in its local reputation and a 63 percent increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.
Research indicates that chamber membership stimulates business-to-business commerce in the local community. Other businesses in town are more likely to do business with you and your company if you are a member of the local chamber. Because a major part of a small business typically comes from business-to-business services, it is essential to maintain a positive standing within the local business community.
