Welcome Home Friends and Supporters:

I admit it - I love the month of February. I love the pink and red, and chocolate, of Valentine's Day. I love that in one of the coldest months of the year in New England, there is a day dedicated to showing people in your life that you care.

At Welcome Home we started the new year by showing 64 local families that we care by supplying them with home goods. 94% of the people who contact us are women, and 50% of the individuals we serve are children. Our volunteers continue to work hard to serve the 200+ families who remain on our waiting list. This Valentine's Day, and every day, we aim to help our clients turn housing into homes.

A case manager from Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program recently shared, "I love that they [WH] ask what colors our patients like. I have a patient whose favorite color is purple and they loaded her up with purple towels, bedding, art - she was so, so happy. I cannot imagine settling patients into housing without the help of Welcome Home."

Welcome Home Partners Again With Nourishing Newton
Nourishing Newton, a program run by the Charles River Regional Chamber and the Rotary Club of Newton, aims to provide financial support for struggling restaurants and healthy meals to those facing food insecurity. This program has been funded for a second year. The program addresses both needs at a time when restaurants continue to need support and when too many families are in need of assistance. 

Welcome Home is proud to be receiving 24 individually prepared meals from Nourishing Newton weekly. They will be distributed during one of our busy client pickup shifts. Any remaining meals will be passed along to the Freedge.
Welcome Home Receives Award From Green Newton
Welcome Home was chosen by the board of Green Newton to receive their 2022 Award to a nonprofit organization in recognition of our outstanding work in our community to collect and redistribute household goods to people in need. A congratulatory note from Marcia Cooper of Green Newton read, "We greatly appreciate the way Welcome Home keeps household goods out of the waste stream, and repurposes or recycles some items in a way that benefits the environment."
Welcome Home Partners With Generic Ministry To Provide Warmth
Generic Ministry has a mission to provide basic necessities and compassion to people living on the streets in Boston. Every Tuesday and Wednesday evening they travel the streets and alleys of Boston hand-delivering food, water, clean clothes, blankets and toiletries to the homeless. Along with these necessities, they supply friendship, respect and encouragement.

Welcome Home has recently begun providing blankets and comforters not suitable for our clients to Generic Ministry who will distribute them to the homeless on the cold streets of Boston. Bedding with small stains, tears and discoloration that once went to fabric recycling will now be put to better use keeping the homeless warm.

Vance Gilbert Promotes Welcome Home In His YouTube Performance
During a weekly YouTube Acoustic Pajama Party show, local musician Vance Gilbert recently chose Welcome Home as the 'nonprofit of the day' and donated 10% of his gross earnings from that night's show to support our work.
