Welcome House 600
At Welcome House Raleigh we roll out the welcome mat to families from all over the world. This month we welcomed our 600th guest!

The need for safe, temporary housing for refugees has been unprecedented. We are grateful for the churches that have responded to this need and opened their parsonages/missionary houses/local apartments to expand and grow this ministry of hospitality. There are over 30 houses in our growing network. They range from the mountains to the ocean, and new houses are being added every month.

This work is made possible by people coming together. Everyday we are privileged to witness the ways the Holy Spirit uses the offerings of churches to transform the lives of desperate people. Another critical resource to our work is community partnerships. These connections allow us to meet the needs of our guests and newest neighbors and strengthen our community as a whole. Read on to learn about how local groups are working with us to offer a fresh start to our newest neighbors.
Community Parnerships
Welcome House beds
Sweet Dreams
As the crisis in Afghanistan unfolded and we began to realize the unprecedented need, a regional mattress company stepped up and offered a bed for every guest of Welcome House.
Welcome House Matress
Sweet Dreams Mattresses and More in Southern Pines offered to supply us with as many mattresses as we needed. Anyone who volunteers at Welcome House knows that each and every guest arrives at our doorstep exhausted. They are weary not only from international travel but from the trauma that fleeing your homeland inflicts. This incredible partnership provides a place of rest in our Welcome Houses and outfits the new homes of our guests when they move to permanent housing.

Peach Road Community Center
Welcome House ESL Green
Learning English is critical for our guests. Most people in North Carolina do not speak Pashtun, Farsi, Burmese, Lingála or Ukrainian. Peach Road Park Community Center in Raleigh offered classroom space for one of our weekly ESL classes. Students can easily walk or ride a bus to this location, and it is a public space which allows for larger classes than an apartment home would.

Being at the Community Center also allows us to connect with other resources. Refugee Hope Partners offers child enrichment activities for the kids so that the moms can focus on learning. Students took part in a yoga class recently. It was an opportunity to learn the English words: up, down, left, right, hands, feet, etc. and a way to care for the health of our students. Soon we will also be incorporating a cooking class focusing on healthy foods. We are so excited about all the possibilities this partnership offers.

What's Next?
As we watch yet another humanitarian crisis unfold on our globe in Ukraine, our hearts are saddened by the pain, loss and grief being inflicted on God's children. We anticipate that refugee and asylum seekers from Ukraine will begin arriving in the next few weeks. We covet your prayers. Please pray for those who will make their way to Raleigh desperately seeking safety. Pray for the friends and family members that are left behind in the midst of war and destruction. Pray for our volunteers as they serve with people who have experienced unimaginable trauma. Pray as we search for affordable housing options for our newest neighbors - affordable housing is a critical need.

Welcome House was featured in local news coverage recently for how we are preparing to receive Ukrainian refugees. Click the tab below to see the video segment.
