Welcome House Raleigh Newsletter

Celebrating a ministry of welcome and hospitality.

As the summer has unfolded, we at Welcome House have delighted in and been given the profound privilege of watching the Spirit of God shine forth in a thousand different ways. We have been:

  • delighted and sometimes suprised by the generosity of churches and individuals committed to this ministry
  • encouraged by youth who gave of their summer to learn and serve and who give us glimpses of a future filled with promise
  • humbled by prayers for us and with us
  • and as always struck by the courage and resilience of the families who are making a home in this new land.

Friends, God is at work. It is an amazing and beautiful wonder. If you are feeling a rumbling in your spirit - a pull to step a bit further into work that by God's grace makes a difference, call us. The work we offer is simple - kindness, friendship, care, attention. . ., but the effect is nothing short of a miracle. We hope that you will read on to learn more about key members of our leadership team and their work. But as you read, know of our profound gratitude and celebration of you. Welcome House has never been about a building or group of buildings; it's about people relating to other people. God is using our relationships to change the world. We are so glad that you are with us in this adventure!

A Prayer Request

Rent in our area has increased by 23.5% over 2021. By 2030 some experts predict that there will be a shortage of 900,00 housing units in North Carolina (WRAL News). Affordable housing is a critical need. It is one of the biggest hurdles in our ministry. Please pray with us that more affordable housing solutions will become available.

If your church has unused/underutilized property or if you know of landlords that could be of help, please email Marc Wyatt. Remember, most of the newcomers we serve have income and monies for rent - they simply need an opportunity.

Meet Ashley

Ashley is our House Manager and works with volunteers to support families in the first days of their new life in the United States. Her grace and care infuse everything she does, and her steadiness is a comfort to families in the midst of change. She reminds us in this article that advocacy is at its heart empathy in action and calls each of us to consider how we can stand with our neighbors as allies and friends.

Meet Hannah

Hannah is a Community Liaison.  She greets whatever task appears in the day with kindness and a smile. Somedays she is offering a yoga class to help an ESL class learn English words for body parts and attend to the spirit of the students. Other days she might be on a farm in Chapel Hill with immigrant farmers learning about their crops and food pathways. She might move furniture, or she might just show up for tea. Hannah reminds us in her article about her recent trip to Kenya that "Everything we do is prayer and worship. Living is praying. The very inhale and exhale of our lungs is praising Him"
