We hope you had a wonderful Fourth of July holiday. It is a special day indeed to celebrate with our immigrant neighbors. As we share this newsletter, Welcome House Raleigh is full. There are several families orienting to life in North Carolina - getting their feet under them as they wait for permanent housing. They, like so many others who have begun their American journey with us, are unbelievably grateful. The possibilities and hopes that they bring with them from their home countries is humbling. We are challenged to live up to the America for which they hope. Thank you for joining us in celebrating the best of our country and sharing it with all our neighbors. Thank you for joining us in a ministry of welcome and hospitality that brings light and joy to so many.

What happens when a group of Girl Scouts have an idea?

We were so excited to meet a local Girl Scout Troop recently! These 4th and 5th grade girls decided (on their own) that they wanted to make a difference for refugees. They thought providing food would be helpful and asked if they could provide a week's worth of groceries for Welcome House. We were delighted! The troop organized a lemonade stand to raise the money. Made A LOT of lemonade. Downloaded the list of groceries needed. Purchased and delivered the food. We are touched that they honored us with such a beautiful gift.

If you would like to make a difference just like these Girl Scouts, you can sign up to donate food for a week as well. Please use the link below to find out what is needed and what weeks are available.

[Speaking of Groceries and Kitchens]

We’ve welcomed more than 750 refugee guests since opening Welcome House Raleigh in 2017. As you would expect, the kitchen and dining area are showing significant wear and tear. It's time to bring this essential space back to life. We are currently running a fundraiser to offset construction costs to replace the cabinets and flooring. If you would like to help us provide a clean and functional space for mom’s and dad’s to make their first homemade healthy meals in North Carolina, join our Facebook fundraiser. It's easy and quick.

World Refugee Day in Downtown Raleigh

We thought you might enjoy seeing a few pictures from Raleigh's World Refugee Day in Moore Square. It was so much fun seeing former Welcome House Guests and catching up with them. One of our current families made the bus ride downtown to enjoy the fun. We ran a few games, passed out water, enjoyed an assortment of performances and loved all the vendors. It was a great day!

Celebrating the Commissioning of our friend and colleague - Delores Stimpson

At the recent CBF Annual Gathering in Atlanta, Delores Stimpson was commissioned as the Head of Welcome House Durham. If you missed the meeting, here is the video link that was used to introduce her. We made this video during the presentation so it will fell just like you were there watching with us. We are so grateful for Delores and her leadership!
