A Celebration of Hospitality and Light

March 2023 Newsletter

Spring is in the air. . .

The days are getting a bit longer, and we are as busy as ever at Welcome House! There is so much to celebrate. Families are rebuilding their lives and calling NC home. Our newest ESL class is made up of folks from Afghanistan, Morocco, Peru, Venezuela, South Korea, Russia, Czech Republic and Mexico. One of our dear friends from Afghanistan recently found a job. Our Circle of Friends Ministry is experiencing growth and deepening commitments.

The families we work with have been through long, bleak nights and seasons where there was precious little light or encouragement. In these early spring-like days we feel more sunlight on our faces and catch glimpses of the dawn breaking for our friends as well. In this work of hospitality, we are reminded every day that by God's grace there is rising to be had.

We have three Bible groups meeting regularly. Allowing the ancient words of the Gospels to illuminate our vastly different individual stories as we sit together is a treasure. One group is reading together the Gospel of Luke.

When Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, is finally freed and able to speak in Luke 1, he is filled with the Holy Spirit and proclaims: In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

May it ever be so!

Celebrating the Installation of Delores Stimpson

Delores Stimpson is appointed as the first Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Global Service Corp post-career field personnel and is leading Welcome House Network - Triangle West.

Delores Stimpson became manager of the Welcome House Community Network’s Triangle West region, which provides temporary residences for newly arriving refugees, Jan. 1. She serves through Global Service Corps, a CBF program that offers mission opportunities to young college graduates and post-career volunteers, who serve alongside field personnel. She will manage the ministries of Welcome Houses in Chapel Hill, Durham and Hillsborough.

Delores became affiliated with Welcome House when she helped Temple Baptist Church in Durham, her home congregation, open a house in 2020. Then she started coordinating work on the west side of the Research Triangle as a volunteer in 2022. We are delighted and excited to welcome Delores in this new role and consider ourselves to be very fortunate indeed!
