Family Table Collaborative Opens the Commons at Riverway

The Cape and Islands United Way raised $75,000 at this year's Best Night to help kickstart the bold initiatives underway with the Family Table Collaborative (FTC). They are passionately addressing food access, distribution and education to solve the food and nutritional security challenges we face in our community. The Bureau of Community Health and Prevention in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is issuing an RFR (Request for Response) for the Mass in Motion Municipal Wellness & Leadership Initiative. The RFR was posted on September 13 and applications are due Monday December 13, 2021.

Mass in Motion is re-procuring grantees to implement municipal and regional practices to address root causes that impact opportunities for active living and access to healthy and affordable food. Funded grantees will support Mass in Motion goals of 1.) increasing and aligning local spending to improve conditions and address Social Determinants of Health; 2.) sustaining the day-to-day practices of municipal governments, organizations, and collaborative partners to address structural and systemic racism and other root cause barriers to good health; and 3.) ensuring everyone has access to healthy foods, opportunities for safe, physical activity, and the things that keep us healthy.

The RFR is open to those who may apply for funding as a single municipality or neighborhood or a collaborative/regional partnership. Potential applicants should review the RFR for further eligibility criteria. Mass in Motion anticipates awarding approximately 6-12 contracts ranging from $80,000-$160,000.00 each annually and that there will be programs funded across the Commonwealth. In early 2020, when COVID 19 hit hard, NAMI Cape Cod & the Islands developed an 8-part Survival Tool Kit Series, based on the research of Bruce Perry, renowned child psychiatrist and neuroscientist. The kit was developed as a guide to review, over the fall and winter months, some essential tools to help us deal with stress of the COVID 19 pandemic. Each month highlights a new topic and provides tools to help manage this crisis and identify resources such as web videos, articles, discussions and more we have found helpful. In the month of February we are highlighting part 4 of the series which focuses on “Screen Time”. To access the tool kit click website button below.
