All About Absences: Sick Policy+

Hello Families of New Students!

Children get sick, parents have busy schedules, and we as a school have to keep everyone as healthy as possible. Here is an abbreviated guide to sick and absence policies. See our Parent Handbook for full details.

When will my child be sent home?

We will send your student home if they are unable to participate in classroom activities and have symptoms of illness. A child with one symptom, such as a headache or stomach ache, may rest for some time to see if they can return to class before calling a parent. Children with 2 or more symptoms and / or a fever are sent home.

Do we need a doctor's note to return?

Anything communicable-disease related requires a doctor's note. Here’s a cheat sheet of sorts of what you will need a note for:

Rashes

Anything Requiring Antibiotics

Sore throat (to be sure it’s not strep)

When Students Arrive Late

If your student arrives after 8:30 a.m. due to a doctor appointment, please call the office and let us know when you will be arriving and also walk in with your student so you may sign them into school. A faculty or staff member will assist younger grades students in joining their class.

Excused & Unexcused Absences

The Ohio Department of Education sets the bar at 20 days of school missed (excused and unexcused) to call EdChoice scholarships into question. We align with this policy for enrollment as well. An excused absence is health related while an unexcused is typically family vacation, etc. Families who find themsleves exceeding the 20 day mark will receive a letter letting them know this has occured. Students who accumulate more than 20 combined absences or tardies may be put on probation at the discretion of the Administrative Faculty.

Wondering about something you read in a previous new family email? You can read them all here online and find all kinds of relevant info on the New Family section of our website! Call or email me anytime with questions.

Sincerely,
