Engaged Patients are Healthier Patients
Using your patient portal: healow
Rittenhouse Women’s Wellness Center utilizes a patient portal called ‘healow’. With healow, patients enjoy unparalleled online access to their personal health information. The patient portal provides secure communications between providers and patients, who can view their records, see lab results, exchange messages, request appointments, and view health education materials.

Healow helps patients track their activities and provides tools that encourage and motivate them to take an active role in their health and wellness. With healow trackers, patients can monitor blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, activity, calories, BMI, and sleep.

Healow has been especially helpful since the start of the pandemic. Healow has allowed RWWC to implement telemedicine in order to continue providing care to patients – even when they may not be able to physically make it into the office. Most of all, healow has made it incredibly easy for patients to attend these appointments. Patients simply receive a text message containing a link 30 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment time. All the patient has to do is click on the link! No download or login required. Patients can conduct their virtual visit using any browser on a desktop or laptop computer, or by downloading the healow app – on an iOS or Android device. In addition to this, patients can send messages directly to their providers at any given time and medical providers can reach out to patients without having to schedule an appointment or give out a personal phone number.

Finally and most importantly, healow Telehealth Solutions are fully compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

Mental Health and Substance Use in Trying Times
By: Dr. Courtney Liggera

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of people in a variety of ways, some of which we are still discovering. Virtually everyone has suffered some form of a hardship over the past nine months. These include physical hardships, as many have fallen ill themselves and/or have lost loved ones to COVID-19. These include work-related hardships, like losing one’s job, or adapting to working from home while balancing a frenzied home life with children being educated online.

But there are also the mental hardships, which can be more difficult to identify. As the pandemic continues, many are missing the normalcy of social interactions and other activities outside the home.

Mental health professionals warn about the psychological effect the pandemic is having on people’s mental health and well-being. Economic stress, anxiety and depression brought on by being home alone, and/or dealing with the loss of loved ones are all likely to have a significant impact on people. Mental health professionals also note that, as the pandemic rages on, the increase in mental health problems as a result of stress from social isolation and other COVID-19 related life changes is contributing to an increase in substance use and misuse.
