LEADERSHIP DELAWARE WELCOMES FIVE NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Leadership Delaware, Inc. announces the appointment of five new members to its Board of Directors, as well as the full slate of officers and board members for 2017. 

Joining the Board are Shanté Hastings '16, Joe Purzycki, Penny Saridakis, Bernardo Tiburcio '15 and Rod Ward.

Shanté Hastings
Deputy Director - Delaware Department of Transportation
Class of 2016 Fellow

Shanté Hastings is the Deputy Director of Transportation Solutions for the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), where she has worked since graduating from the University of Delaware in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Shanté is responsible for the division's operating budget, personnel actions, labor management, professional development and training, and innovation initiatives. She also serves as the department's liaison with the Federal Highway Administration. In 2013, Shanté was awarded the Young Engineer of the Year Award by the Delaware Engineering Society in recognition of her work in the field of engineering and community service. Shanté has enjoyed staying involved with her alma mater. She is a Past President of the University of Delaware Alumni Association and currently serves as the President of the University of Delaware Kent and Sussex Counties Alumni Club. Shanté is a proud member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and has stayed active as a chapter advisor. She also enjoys singing in the Grace United Methodist Church Praise Band. Shanté and her husband, Jason, live in Millsboro with their daughters Lilly and Maya. 

Joseph J. Purzycki
President & Partner, The Alliance Companies; Vice Chairman & Chief Operating Officer, Barclaycard US (ret.)

Joe Purzycki is currently the President & Partner of the Alliance Companies, a payments company headquartered in Portsmouth, NH.
 
Prior to his current position he was Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Barclaycard US, a division of Barclaycard International. As Chief Operating Officer, Joe was responsible for all operational aspects of the business including Customer Care, Bank Operations, Customer Support, Technology and Marketing Operations and their supporting budgets. 800 of Barclay's 1200 US colleagues reported to Joe's organization. As Vice Chairman and member of the Board of Directors, Joe was directly involved in the management and strategic direction of the company.
 
Prior to becoming the Chief Operating Officer of Barclaycard US in 2007, Joe managed Customer Care and Bank Operations for the company. Prior to joining Barclays Bank, Mr. Purzycki was Executive Vice President of Chase Card Services from 2001-2006 and was a member of the Card Services Senior Management Team. Mr. Purzycki managed the Business Development Segment, One/Chase re-emerged as a leader in the co-brand industry with the signing of companies like Disney, Amazon.com, Starbucks, Sony and Circuit City.
 
In 2001 Joe spent a year with an Internet start-up company, Ultimatebid.com and served as President of the San Francisco based entity. Ultamatebid.com partnered with IMG and SFX to deliver unique experiences to customers on its eBay serviced platform.
 
Mr. Purzycki began his credit card career at MBNA America Bank in 1990 where he was an Executive Vice President. Mr. Purzycki managed the credit businesses for MBNA's transportation business (NASCAR), its sports, business (National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Hockey League) and its college and university business. Joe has a Master's degree in Education Administration and a Bachelor's of Science in Education from the University of Delaware.
 
After receiving his Bachelors of Science and Master's degrees, Mr. Purzycki went on to become the head football coach at Delaware State University and James Madison University. Mr. Purzycki has served as Chairman of the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware and was a Board of trustee for seventeen years.  Mr. Purzycki has been inducted into the State of Delaware Sports Hall of Fame, the State of Delaware African American Hall of Fame, the University of Delaware Alumni Hall of Fame, the University of Delaware's Athletics Hall of Fame and the Newark, NJ Athletics Hall of Fame where he grew up.  Mr. Purzycki also received the Order of the First State from former Governor Pete DuPont.  The Order of the First State is Delaware's highest honor for meritorious service the Governor can give out to its citizenry.

Penny Saridakis
Chair of Trustees, Christiana Care Health System

A native Delawarean, Penny Saridakis is a graduate of Ursuline High School in Wilmington. She graduated from Boston College with a B.A. in Economics in 1989 and earned an M.B.A. from Columbia University in 1994.
 
Professionally, Penny's career includes completion of a Management Development Program at the Chase Manhattan Bank, followed by positions in the Credit Card Division and Private Banking International. After earning her MBA, Penny worked at MasterCard International as a Vice President in the Global Debit business. She managed global marketing programs for the Cirrus ATM network and the Maestro debit card program. In countries outside the United States where credit was not readily available to the general public, Penny worked with heads of local banks and Ministries of Finance to negotiate the launch of MasterCard debit products, which were innovative payment products at the time. She helped to launch and build the brands in countries such as South Africa, Argentina, Mexico, and Taiwan. Penny also held the position of Vice President, Global Debit Products, at Citibank.
 
Outside of work, Penny volunteered in Connecticut at Save the Children in Westport, at Stepping
Stones Children's Museum in Norwalk and was an active member of the Junior League of Stamford/Norwalk.
 
Since returning home to live Delaware in 2002, Penny has been devoting her time on efforts related to enhancing the quality of life in Delaware - healthcare, education and the arts. She currently serves in a variety of ways at Christiana Care Health System. She serves on the Board of Directors, is Chair of Trustees and also serves on the External Affairs and Nominating Committees. From 2009 - 2014, she was lead Co-Chair of the Friends of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center. In 2015, she and two fellow Trustees launched the Young Friends of Christiana Care, a program for high school students that focuses on leadership, learning and philanthropy.
 
Penny is a past member of the Board of the Grand Opera House and of the Delaware Theatre
Company, and has served on committees at Tower Hill School, Wilmington Country Club, the Christmas Shop Foundation and the Delaware Art Museum, where she most recently co-chaired the 2016 Holiday House Tour. 
 
Penny resides in Greenville with her husband Chris, her 16-year old son and 14-year old triplets.
 

Bernardo V. Tiburcio
Chief Information Officer, DuPont Sustainable Solutions - DuPont Company
Class of 2015 Fellow 

Bernardo Tiburcio is an Information Technology professional with over 18 years of experience developing and implementing technology solutions for international companies. He obtained a B.S. Degree in Electronic Systems Engineering from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) and has received certifications as Six Sigma Green Belt, Six Sigma Black Belt, and Project Management Professional (PMP). Bernardo started his career in Mexico, where he led the IT department of the newspaper "Siglo 21", launched the 3rd on-line newspaper in the country, and designed one of the first web-based editorial systems in operation. In 1999, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he worked as a consultant at GE Power Systems. Among other assignments, he was the technical leader for the On-Line Auction System, which saved GE over $200M the first year of operation. Bernardo was hired by DuPont and moved to Delaware in 2002. In his 12 years with DuPont, he has held numerous positions in sourcing and IT. He is currently the Chief Information Officer for DuPont Sustainable Solutions, with global IT accountability for the business in DuPont that leads the transformation of workplaces and work cultures to become safer, more efficient and environmentally sustainable. Bernardo has two daughters and enjoys spending some of his free time supporting nonprofit organizations focused on humanitarian causes, such as United Way of Delaware.


Rodman "Rod" Ward III
President & CEO - Corporation Service Company (CSC)

Rodman Ward III is president and chief executive officer of Corporation Service Company® (CSC®). A fourth-generation descendant of one of the company's founders, Ward served on the CSC board for more than 15 years prior to his election as CEO in April 2010. Prior to that, Ward was president and chief executive officer of Speakman Company, a premier supplier of faucets, showerheads, and related fixtures to the plumbing trade. He serves today as chairman of Speakman's board of directors and is past president of PMI, the leading trade association for plumbing supply manufacturers. Ward held previous roles at Snap-on Inc., FMC Corporation, and Credit Suisse.
