March is Women's History Month

Women-owned businesses propel our economy forward.

  • In the past five years, total employment by women-owned businesses rose 8%, 1.8% for all other businesses (NAWBO)
  • 5.4 million firms are majority-owned by women of color in the U.S. (NAWBO)
  • In 2020, women-owned businesses executed 344,000 contracts across the U.S., with 4,591 contracts specifically providing critical COVID-19 support (PERFORMANCE.GOV)

In this virtual workshop, presented by SEED Corporation, participants will learn the fundamentals of financing a small business, what lenders/loan officers look for in a loan application, and the funding programs available to start-up and existing business owners.

Topics will include the Six C’s of Credit, traditional vs. non-traditional lending requirements, and SBA loan programs. This workshop will also touch on what to include in a business plan when looking for capital. Attendees will be provided with a business plan guide as well as financial tracking and projection templates. Register below.



People Incorporated will be hosting a Business After Hours on Thursday, March 16, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. 

Business After Hours is an evening of fun, food, and fellowship among Chamber members and their guests, with a chance to network, make new friends, and meet potential customers.

People Incorporated was founded in 1968 by parents of people with disabilities who were seeking better quality and more diverse services for their children. Today, the organization offers employment training and job development, day habilitation, community and family support services, residential services, and children's services including early education and care, early intervention, parenting programs, and preschool. Stop by and learn more about the services they provide.

The Braver Cyber Insurance Workshop is a highly informative and interactive session that aims to educate individuals and businesses about the significant role of cyber risk insurance in today's digital landscape. 

Leading this workshop are Kenny Rounds, CEO of Braver Technology, an leading cybersecurity authority, and Dan Costa, vCIO, who serve as liaisons to our advanced security division partner Cyber74. The workshop will also feature Chris Brook, CIC, CRM, Principal at Brook Insurance, a local expert (and provider) in the field of cyber risk insurance. 

Through this workshop, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the risks and threats associated with cyber-attacks and how cyber risk insurance can help mitigate these risks. 

The session covers a comprehensive overview of the cyber insurance landscape, including the various types of policies available, their coverage, and the factors that impact premiums.

Mayor O'Connell Announces Grant to Study Potential of Former Nursing Home

Mayor Shaunna O’Connell recently announced that the City of Taunton has received a $50,000 grant from the MassDevelopment Real Estate Technical Assistance Program to conduct a study on the potential reuse and redevelopment of the former Taunton Nursing Home site.  Read more here.

Dighton Launches "Shop Local" Campaign

Dighton has launched a “Shop Local” campaign complete with a local business directory on the town’s

website to “put the spotlight on our locally owned businesses and all the amazing products, services, food, and experiences that they have to offer.” Dighton Development & Industrial Commission Chairman Daniel Higgins said the business directory was recently placed on the website to urge support for local businesses owned by residents or based in Dighton.
