Call for Nominations: National Medal of Science
NSF is seeking nominations for the National Medal of Science from February 7 to May 20. Click here to learn how to make nominations.

The National Medal of Science (NMS) is the highest recognition the nation can bestow on scientists and engineers. It was established by the 86th Congress in 1959 as a Presidential Award to be given to individuals “deserving of special recognition by reason of their outstanding contributions to knowledge in the physical, biological, mathematical, or engineering sciences.” In 1980, Congress expanded this recognition to include the social and behavioral sciences.

A Committee of distinguished scientists and engineers is appointed by the President to evaluate the nominees for the Award. Since its establishment, the medal has been awarded to 506 distinguished scientists and engineers whose careers spanned decades of research and development.

Getting and using your free ORCID iD and ORCID record can help you save time and get credit for your work in funding, publishing, and research reporting workflows. Funding organizations, publishers, and research institutions are increasingly requiring or asking for ORCID iDs from researchers, so this workshop will help you make sure you are ahead of the game.

Faculty can also reach out to Christina Miskey, University Libraries, or schedule a consultation if you have any questions or need assistance with ORCID.
