UC Merced Community,

I am excited to announce the arrival on campus of Dr. Jackson Muhirwe, who joined UC Merced as Chief Information Security Officer in the Office of Information Technology on May 3, 2022. Jackson comes to us from the University of California Davis, where he served for four years as Deputy Chief Information Security Officer.

Jackson brings a wealth of experience to UC Merced. He has held various leadership and faculty roles in Information Technology and Cybersecurity for over two decades, as well as life experience on four different continents. Prior to his UC career, Jackson served the City and County of San Francisco as the Interim Chief Information Security Officer and Director of Cybersecurity Services. There, he led the city-wide team that was charged with the responsibility of protecting the critical cyber infrastructure and digital assets of the City and County of San Francisco.

During his tenure at UC Davis, Jackson led various campus-wide initiatives and was specifically charged with the rollout of the UC Davis response to the University of California Information Security policy BFB-IS3. This experience will be critical to UC Merced as we continue to adopt and apply that policy to our campus.

Please join me in welcoming Jackson - his experience and measured, thoughtful approach will make him an excellent fit for our campus and I am excited about the leadership he will provide as we improve the security posture of UC Merced.

Interim Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer
