From Trouble to Triumph

Eli and Jaquavian Williamson Revisit Their Roots:

A Heartfelt Thank You to the Lacey Family Spring Hill Club

Eli and Jaquavian recall their early days at the Club, when they struggled to follow the rules and sometimes found themselves bullying others. Neither imagined they would one day aspire to attend college and pursue careers in law enforcement.

Today, Eli is studying Criminal Justice at Broward College, aiming to become a private investigator, while Jaquavian is majoring in Criminal Justice at Seminole State College, with dreams of becoming a police officer.

"As alumni, we are deeply grateful to The Boys & Girls Club of Volusia/Flagler Counties and The Volusia County Sheriff's Office

Their mentorship has made a lasting impact on us and so many other young men in the community," shared Eli and Jaquavian Williamson.

"We sincerely thank them for their ongoing commitment to building strong connections between the neighborhood youth and the future of law enforcement."

OVERCOMING THE ODDS

It is a place where challenges are met with support, where dreams are nurtured, and where young people like Jeremiah find the encouragement they need to thrive.

A testament to resilience and the powerful impact of community support.

Jeremiah’s journey is a testament to resilience and the powerful impact of community support. Raised by a single mother alongside his sister, Jeremiah faced significant challenges, especially when transitioning from New Jersey to Florida. Moving from one state to another, adapting to a new environment, and leaving behind familiar faces was no easy feat for him. The difficulties did not stop there. While attending Heritage Middle School, Jeremiah experienced a traumatic event that could have derailed his progress. He was struck by a speeding car on Courtland Blvd., which clipped his leg and pinned him in the crosswalk. It was a severe accident that tested his strength and spirit.

Despite these hurdles, Jeremiah’s passion for baseball, a love he nurtured both in New Jersey and Florida, remained unwavering. His determination to overcome adversity and continue pursuing his dreams was evident.

The Boys & Girls Club has been a cornerstone of support throughout Jeremiah’s journey. Having been a Club Kid at the Boys & Girls Club in Clifton, New Jersey, it also became a place where Jeremiah found a supportive community and role models who believed in him. Today, he has grown into a remarkable young leader. As a Jr. Staff member and a Youth of the Year participant this year, he embodies the values and resilience fostered by the Club. His dedication and hard work have been recognized with the Bright Future Scholarship from FPL, marking a significant milestone in his journey. Jeremiah’s story highlights the profound impact that the Boys & Girls Club can have on young lives. It is a place where challenges are met with support, where dreams are nurtured, and where young people like Jeremiah find the encouragement they need to thrive.
