Message from A.J. Baynes

Summer is officially here, and I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July and could take advantage of the incredible weather throughout the holiday weekend. The Chamber is readily preparing for one of our largest events of the year, our Small Business Awards Luncheon and Showcase! We have very few seats left and expect another sellout event as we honor the following businesses:

  • Community Stewardship Award: The Tool Library
  • At Your Service Award: Fat Bob's Smokehouse
  • Friend of the Chamber: Eric Conrad, The Junkluggers of Buffalo
  • Family-Owned Business Award: WNY Metro Roberts Realty
  • KeyBank Sponsor's Award: WNY Medical PC
  • Small Business of the Year: Rolly Pollies

There is still time to reserve your seat and join over 300 community leaders and business owners. Those arriving before 11 am will be eligible for a $200 Wegmans gift card and two club-level tickets for a 2024 Buffalo Bills game donated by Hover Networks.

While preparing for our Awards Luncheon and Showcase, we have still been extremely busy supporting our local businesses. The Chamber has been cutting ribbons on new businesses throughout the community, and we have a full calendar of new announcements coming up. On Tuesday, July 9, we will be at Pierogi Pete's in East Amherst for our July Lunch Mob. Pierogi Pete's is another extension of Ania Duchon's brands. Her original business, Chrusciki Bakery, led to Sto Lat Bar, Events by Sto Lat, and now Pierogi Pete's. Ania is a past Small Business Award recipient. Please join us for Lunch Mob by registering here.

In keeping with the spirit of keeping dollars locally, starting at 7:16pm on July 15 and running all day July 16 will be the 2024 Give 716. Give 716 is hosted by the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres Foundation and the Amherst Chamber of Commerce is happy to play a part in this day through our SHOP716 e-gift card program. At noon and again at 7pm on July 16, the first 325 donors of $71.60 will receive a $25 SHOP716 e-gift card to be used at one of the nearly 1,000 locally owned businesses.

Our next Business After Hours is Tuesday, July 16, downtown at Serendipity Labs and PCI, located on the 29th and 30th floors of Seneca One. They are planning a popcorn bar with What's Pop-in, a 716 Day raffle (716 day), and some assorted drinks. See some of Western New York's most unique spaces with picturesque views of our incredible city. It will be an evening you will not want to miss, so please register for the July Business After Hours here. We will remain downtown for our August Business After Hours event at one of Buffalo's newest restaurants, Prova, at Fountain Plaza. Chamber Investor Harter Secrest and Emery LLP are hosting our Business After Hours event at Prova, located on the ground floor. For more information about the August Business After Hours, please click here.

The Chamber is constantly evolving its services and offerings to its members. We recognize that, as business owners, your teams are evolving as well. On Thursday, August 8, we will be hosting our third New Member Orientation & Open House of the year in our newly renovated offices and upgraded conference room space READ MORE.

Helping Western New Yorkers stay healthy this summer

Independent Health is excited to work with partners throughout Western New York to help you and your neighbors get fit and active, stay healthy and have fun in the sun. The following activities, programs and events are just some of the ways we're working to improve the health and well-being of our community – not just our members:

·       Reddy Bikeshare – With more than 400 GPS-enabled bikes at 100+ stations across Buffalo and Niagara Falls, we’re making it easy for you to commute to work, ride to school, visit your favorite park or take a leisurely roll. New this year, Reddy+ e-bikes (pedal-assist electric bicycles) are now available at select locations. In addition, Independent Health members can save on annual memberships.

·       SkyRide – Save the date for GObike Buffalo’s annual SkyRide on Sunday, July 21. Join us for a family-friendly bike ride to see Buffalo like never before!

·       Fitness in the Parks – Perfect for all ages and abilities, this popular program gives you the chance to get fit for free in a park near you with our friends from the YMCA. Yoga, Zumba, Pilates and Circuit Training are among the15 different styles of classes being offered at more than 25 locations across the region through August 31.

·       Tifft Nature Preserve Wellness Walks – Take in the sights and sounds of nature while getting your steps in by joining us for “Wellness Walks presented by Independent Health” every Thursday morning at Tifft Nature Preserve. All ages are encouraged to attend these free casual walks, which are guided by a knowledgeable volunteer.

·       Outer Harbor Buffalo – As the official health and wellness partner of Outer Harbor Buffalo, Independent Health invites you to take part in free fitness classes by the waterfront. You can also enjoy some fresh air while biking, jogging or walking on the 3-mile Independent Health Wellness Trail.

·       Food Truck Tuesdays – Independent Health is proud to sponsor Food Truck Tuesdays at Larkin Square. Through the Independent Health Foundation’s Healthy Options® program, every participating food truck will offer at least one item that’s considered to be lower in fat, sodium and cholesterol. On select dates, free giveaways will be distributed by Independent Health RedShirts.

·       Buffalo RiverWorks – Spend the day at Buffalo RiverWorks, where Independent Health members can save 20 percent year-round on adventure activities like kayaking, paddle boarding, rock wall climbing, zip lining and the indoor ropes course.
