The Story Behind the Songs
This last month has presented Linda and me with wonderful challenges and opportunities. A good friend, Carolyn Britt (83) came over for a visit just before Christmas. She asked for our help in developing two poems she had written many years ago. The first was Lullaby for Carolyn. She would recite this to her newly adopted granddaughter. The baby Carolyn born in China found it difficult adjusting to her new life. The second, The Wind Bandits, she would read to her 3-year-old grandson. Carolyn wanted to do something with both poems.
She asked Linda to create a The Wind Bandits Children's book including illustrations created by Lonnie Edwards. Then Carolyn asked me if I would write songs for both poems. These two videos are the results of our combined efforts.
Linda created the graphics, and I wrote and recorded the songs. We released a Lullaby for Carolyn a few days before Christmas so she could give her now grown-up granddaughter this special gift of her lullaby. Grandmother Carolyn is singing this song herself and I uploaded the video to YouTube in time for Carolyn to play this for the family on Christmas Eve. Little did we know that this video would be viewed over 53,000 times.
Then Linda and I went to work on completing The Wind Bandits for now grown-up grandson. I one-fingered a piano part and added some harmonies to this haunting bedtime story. I have uploaded this video today, so both are now available on YouTube. I really love working on these collaborative adventures. Watch for the book coming soon.
